The 2023 Formula 1 season has been thoroughly dominated by Red Bull so far, and more of the same will be expected at their home race, the Austrian Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

After a win in the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this month, Verstappen has six wins in the first eight races and a 69-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez, whose future at Red Bull has come into question with three consecutive non-podium finishes and a seemingly deteriorating relationship with Red Bull.

Current Formula 1 2023 World Drivers' Championship Standings (After Eight Races)

  • Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – 195 points
  • Sergio Perez (Red Bull) – 126
  • Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) – 117
  • Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) – 102
  • Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari) – 68
  • George Russell (Mercedes) – 65
  • Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 54
  • Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) – 37

Can Perez or anyone else keep Verstappen fro) m a fifth straight win and a record fourth Austrian Grand Prix win? The odds aren't high, but races aren't won on paper. So, with that in mind, let's take a look at odds for the race.

Austrian Grand Prix 2023 Odds

  • Max Verstappen -350
  • Fernando Alonso +900
  • Sergio Perez +900
  • Lewis Hamilton +1200
  • Charles Leclerc +1400
  • Carlos Sainz Jr. +2800
  • George Russell +2800
  • Lance Stroll +30000
  • Esteban Ocon +40000
  • Pierre Gasly +40000

2023 Austrian Grand Prix Predictions and Picks

With the run that he has been on, and the location of this weekend's race, there's not a lot of reason to pick someone else for the win besides Verstappen.

Out of the field the Austrian Grand Prix, Verstappen has three wins (2018, 2019, and 2021), Valtteri Bottas has two (2017 and 2020), and Charles Leclerc (2022) and Lewis Hamilton (2016).

But unless Verstappen suffers an issue with the car, he doesn't look likely to lose at the moment, as best as Alonso and Hamilton try to keep things somewhat competitive.

So, since we have that out of the way, let's take a look at where we can find some actual betting value for Sunday's race at the Red Bull Ring.

The Austrian Grand Prix has been a good one for Ferrari in recent years, with at least one Ferrari driver finishing on the podium in six of the last seven editions of the race.

However, Leclerc and Sainz have just one podium finish between themselves this season–Leclerc finished third at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix–and they are not an easy team to trust with your money.

That said, this is one of the GPs on the calendar with a sprint race that determines the grid for the race, and that makes Leclerc an appealing option as a podium pick.

Charles Leclerc Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix 2023 odds

He won the sprint race at the Red Bull Ring last year before going on to win the Grand Prix, and in the previous sprint race on this season's calendar, he finished first in Azerbaijan before finishing third in the Grand Prix in Baku.

If you like the value there, Bovada has Leclerc at +225 to finish on the Austrian Grand Prix podium.

Alonso beat out Hamilton for second in the Canadian Grand Prix, but I still like the trajectory the seven-time champion is on. He has finished fourth, second, and third in the last three races, and he is currently -110 for a third straight podium finish.

Could this weekend be where Perez gets back on track? If he doesn't, the whispers that his Red Bull tenure could potentially end during the season will only get louder.

He has finished 16th, fourth, and sixth in his last three races after finishing first or second in four of the first five races, and when eight-time Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo, the team's third driver, is waiting in the wings, Perez's seat is warm even if he is second in the standings.

Given how things have played out recently, you get the picture that Red Bull may not be overly invested in his success, at least relative to Verstappen. So, even though this is their home race, it's hard to get behind him for a podium finish, because improved results would only prolong the outcome that seems inevitable.
