2026 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Analysis & Best Bets: Will Ferrari Enter the Summer Break with a Win?

This week the Formula 1 paddock heads out to Hungary for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the 11th race of the season. Whether you are a native Hungarian, a tourist, or possibly even a spy, the Hungaroring has something for everyone to enjoy at this week's F1 stop.

This circuit known as Hungaroring is a bit of a slower paced one than we have seen recently. Imagine this track as Monaco but without the walls. But do not let that make you think this track is incapable of some exciting moments.

Hungarian Grand Prix Race Breakdown and Analysis

Like I said earlier, this race is different from the British Grand Prix and Belgian Grand Prix, which were the last two races. With a much slower track, this one is all about being technically sound behind the wheel as much getting the car to perform to its maximum. If you get this track down, it will reward you tremendously. If you do not, it can cost you the race.

This track is a harsh one, putting tremendous amounts of wear on the tires each lap. The tires and grip play a key part to this track due to the many winding corners that flow into each other. With that causes a lack of track or room to build up gaps and a lot of racers find themselves in "dirty air" or caught behind other racers if you are unfamiliar with that term.

The keys to winning in Hungary all come from this technicality I keep mentioning. It all starts on qualifying day, as contenders need to near the front due to the difficulty to overtake. Then it is about nailing the takeoff of the race, managing the tires, and finding their rhythm behind the wheel to string together good laps around the track.

Free Practice & Qualifying Breakdown

In the first free practice we saw the Ferrari cars look very convincing with Leclerc and Hamilton placing P1 and P3 in the first session. The Red Bulls as well looked very good with Verstappen and Hadjar placing P2 and P4.

The second free practice session showed us more of the same with the two Ferrari's taking the top two spots and Lando Norris behind them.

Free practice three showed us the McLarens came to race as well with Lando Norris taking top spot in that practice session followed by Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli respectively. The Red Bulls seemed to fall behind a bit in this session as the Mercedes surged forward.

Qualifying seemed to be going pretty straightforward until about the last 15 seconds in the third qualifying round. In that last few moments Max Verstappen lost control and spun off the track ruining the flying laps of Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton amongst others.

After Max was back on track there were only a few moments left where Lando Norris found himself on the tail end of his flying lap where he eventually found himself in P1 by .012 of second.

Hamilton (who originally qualified second) and Antonelli (who originally qualified fourth) both receive grid penalties for the race due to infractions committed during qualifying.

Hungarian Grand Prix Predictions & Best Bets

Race Winner: Charles Leclerc +185 on Lucky Rebel 

Before the penalties mixed up our starting grid, I really liked Lewis Hamilton to find his way onto the first-place stand on the podium but now I am pivoting to the other Ferrari driver who has been impressive all weekend as well.

Leclerc is poised to find his way into first place as I believe the Ferrari car is still a couple of tenths better and faster than the McLaren this year. With the dominant car and Mercedes buried down in the order, it will be tough for them to make ground on this narrow track.

With the technicality of this track, it is very easy to mess up and find yourself spun off or burried into the wall. Hungary is also not the tamest of places when it comes to weather so things could turn on their heads in an instant their as well. This may be a slower track, but that doesn't mean we should not expect some chaos.

Winning Margin: U5 Seconds -120 on Lucky Rebel

As I mentioned above, there is not much room to build up gaps on this track. In fact, the average margin of victory is between two to five seconds. With what I expect to be a sloppy race tomorrow there will be plenty of cautions and even safety cars along the way.
