This week the F1 paddock heads to Barcelona at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Many call it the measuring stick of Formula 1 since many teams perform off-season testing here. The track has a mix of long straights, looping corners, and harsh asphalt. Giving it the ability to test a car's performance truly. The rule is that if the car performs well here, it will perform well at any track.
This race also has its fair share of history. Giving us iconic moments like the 1991 Senna vs Mansell battle down the straight one of the most iconic pictures in Motorsports. It also gave us the first win of Max Verstappen's career and Michael Schumacher's first Ferrari win.

Barcelona Grand Prix Race Analysis

Like I said before this track has a little bit of everything. Speed, overtaking corners, and a harsh surface that makes tire management a must—almost the complete opposite of what we had last week at Monaco. If Monaco is all about the glitz and glam, Barcelona is all about the cars and racing. Some key features of this track are the massive 1.047 KM straight, the high speed "sweeper" corners at turns 3 and 9.
The one thing this track does share with Monaco is the pole-to-winner conversion rate which is at 71%. That's due to the drivers and teams being so familiar with the track. This race will be all about the cars and who is willing to risk it all to take home the checkered flag. To win this race each driver must make the most out of the overtaking corners, and tire management is a must this weekend with the abrasive asphalt and warm track conditions playing a huge factor.
Free Practice & Qualifying Breakdown
Through the first two sessions of free practice we have seen the McLarens look very impressive. Both McLarens placed top 5 in Free Practice 1 and Lando Norris took first in Free Practice 2 with teammate Oscar Piastri in 3rd. A constant figure in the first two sessions was George Russell of Mercedes but he will have to do more to convince me of anything before the race. In the 3rd session we saw George Russell take 1st with again both McLarens in the top 5 as well.
Other top performers in Free Practice included Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, and Lewis Hamilton. All placing within the top 5 in each of their practice sessions. A lot of complaints came from the drivers of tire degradation which is to be expected with the track conditions.
In Qualifying we saw the top performers in Free Practice McLaren struggle quite a bit to begin but they once again found the groove. George Russell kept up his great performance gaining pole position, followed by Lewis Hamilton, and Kimi Antonelli rounding out the top 3. The Red Bulls had an impressive showing as well. We did see Charles Leclerc crash into a wall during Q3 ending a promising session for the Ferrari driver.
The race strategy for tomorrows race seems to be 2-3 pit stopper so strategy will be a key factor.

Barcelona Grand Prix Preview & Best Bets
Race Winner: Kimi Antonelli +275 on Lucky Rebel

The 19 year old has continued to impress me throughout the season. I know we talked about the pole to conversion ratio at Barcelona being over 70% but Russell has shown me nothing over the last few races to convince me he can hold off Kimi or Lewis behind him. Kimi will have to get past Lewis but I believe the Mercedes is just a far better car than the Ferrari.
Something about the youth and fearlessness in Kimi allows him to take risks that older drivers may not be willing to take. But that is how you exceed in sports, you have got to be a little bit fearless and a lot of bit crazy to achieve your ultimate goal.
U18.5 Classified Cars on -125 Lucky Rebel

Last week we saw 7 cars DNF at Monaco. A mellow track compared to what we have here in Barcelona. With higher speeds, a harsher driving surface, and bigger turns, the chances of a wreck or mechanical failure increase.
So far this year through all the races there has been an average of 5.3 DNFs. Every race will have a few drivers retire but this year we are seeing a spike due to the new cars and teams still trying to figure out all the links.
Virtual Safety Car During the Race -115 on Lucky Rebel
Much like the classified cars bet that we took we will inevitably see a car or a few retire. Whether it be a collision, a spin off the track, or a just a mechanical failure one of these events will ultimately happen, causing the stewards to enact a virtual safety car.
Total Classified Drivers – Aston Martin – 1 Driver +160 on Lucky Rebel
Listen to put it in the nicest way possible… Aston Martin have the worst car I have ever seen on a Formula 1 track. The car is just not competitive and constantly giving these drivers and mechanics trouble. Through 6 races this year Aston Martin have only had both care finish a race once at the Miami GP. In 3 races they have only had 1 finisher, so odds are that at this rough track one or both of these care won't finish.
If you want to get extra spicy, 0 classified drivers for Aston Martin is +600 on Lucky Rebel as well.
