Two teams facing off for the first time ever and we hope for a good game. The Indiana Fever head to California to take on the Golden State Valkyries at the Chase Center. Another new team for the Valkyries this season, who have been settling in.
Indiana is 6-5 so far and third in the Eastern Conference. They come into this game on a two-game winning streak after defeating the Sun on Tuesday night. That was a heck of a game to remember as these two teams do not like each other.
Last game was a scrappy match as Caitlin Clark was bodied to the floor by Marina Mabrey after getting caught up with Jacy Sheldon. Fever guard Sophie Cunningham made sure that did not go unnoticed with a hard foul on Sheldon late in the game.
Clark missed four games this season and it was her second game back from injury. Since returning, she has put up 52 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds, while hitting 11 three-point shots. Safe to say the time off didn't hurt the kid at all. Tonight, they'll look to get over .500 on the road and get their third road win of the season.

Valkyries off to a decent start this season, look to bounce back at home

Golden State forward and standout Kayla Thornton smiles after a timeout is called.
The Valkyries are 5-6 this season and fourth in the Western Conference. They come into this game off a loss to the Wings on Tuesday night, snapping a three-game winning streak. Golden State was completely in the game until having a 14-point fourth quarter to lose by nine points. They return home this game where they are 3-2 so far.
Being a new team, the players are all new to each other as well, but they're starting to gel. Forward Kayla Thornton has emerged has the leader so far. She is averaging 14.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Golden State ranks in the bottom of the league on offense. They still have a lot to figure out in regard to scoring, but they're not half bad on defense. The Valkyries rank No. 7 in defensive efficiency, No. 4 in rebounding, second in free-throw percentage, and No. 3 in steals. They must protect the ball better though, as they are second-worst in turnovers per game.

I know this seems crazy because of the blowouts the Fever have put up this season, but my gut tells me that this is a lot of points. This Valkyries team is better than most think and their stars are emerging.
Golden State doesn't have the greatest offense, but they only need to hang around for this one. Kayla Thornton and Veronica Burton have really stepped up as the leaders, especially Thornton. In the last three games they lost, they covered the 11 points, including against the Lynx.
We should see a battle here, but the Valkyries defense should clamp the Fever a bit. I like for Thornton to get 15 or more points as well as eight or more rebounds. Pair them together for plus money because she will have to be heavily involved for them to contend.
I really haven't seen the Fever play a game where they isolate a player to force others to make plays. Even Angel Reese put up 12 and 17 in the first game of the season in a 35-point blowout loss. We hope to see the same minus the blowout!
I do like Clark to get four or more three-pointers as well. She has hit in her last two games since returning and seems to be feeling it. The volume will be there, and she should get chances to drain threes, assuming Golden State doesn't double team her all game.
