It's almost that time of year for the WNBA to return. There was a lot of action this past week with free agents signing and even the draft just happened. With all the noise in trades and free agents, let's get into a few of the big ones to start.
A few big names have new homes. Angel Reese bid farewell to Chicago and was traded to the Atlanta Dream, Satou Sabally took her talents to the Big Apple and Gabby Williams is looking to take over a franchise in Golden State.
This is only Part One of the WNBA Off Season Moves, so let's get into these three specifically and see what it means for each team in 2026.
Angel Reese traded from the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream

A trade that may not have surprised some. Reese was the star of the Sky for the last two seasons and last year she had a great sophomore season. You could tell the frustration with not being on a winning team and she now plays for one of the best teams in the East.
This is going to be huge for Atlanta. Add Reese to the arsenal of Rhyne Howard, Alisha Gray and Brionna Jones. Atlanta finished third in the league and the top team in the East last season with 30 wins. This is only going to make them super tough to beat.
If Reese shows more improvement this year like she did last year, she's definitely going to be a Defensive Player of the Year contender. What's the over under for how many double doubles she's going to get next year??
They're going to be a major contender again this season. Atlanta will have their work cut out with them as teams like the Liberty have improved as well.
New York Liberty gets even more stacked with the signing of Satou Sabally

Well, I don't know who saw this one coming…because I didn't! Free agent Satou Sabally and the New York Liberty made a huge move. Sabally signed a multiyear deal with New York and was probably the most sought-after free agent this offseason.
Sabally brings a huge piece of offense to an already stacked team. She will fit right in with the likes of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones. Jones also just joined in the signing party and signed another two-year deal with the Liberty.
I can't even begin to express my excitement on this one. The Liberty stock just went through the roof, but we'll have to see how they settle in under a new coach as well. They hired 4-time NBA champion assistant coach Chris DeMarco as their head coach in December 2025, following the departure of Sandy Brondello.
The threats on this team are endless, and the city is excited for Sabally's arrival. From the looks of her Instagram story – the feelings mutual!

Valkyries land young star Gabby Williams from the Storm

This was a pretty cool move. Teams like the Aces and Lynx were apparently trying hard to get her and she chose the Valkyries. In their first season, they showed to have an amazing fanbase and I'm sure that played a factor.
Williams also now has the chance to be the premier player. Forward Kayla Thornton had a great year last season and will play great alongside Williams. Thornton just resigned with the team on a 1-year deal. I think this was a bold move by Gabby and could really be her path to being one of the greats.
Golden State made the playoffs last year and are returning a lot of the same players. Lots of high hopes for this team this year with Williams added. Veronica Burton and Janelle Salaun return this season and they just drafted Flau'jae Johnson the other night.
