Dream vs Liberty WNBA Game 2 Predictions, Odds, & Best Bets for Round 1 (9/24)

wnba

Breanna Stewart is our 2023 WNBA MVP and it's the 2nd in her career. She becomes the 1st player in New York Liberty history to win the MVP.

She has helped lead this Liberty team and they are now 3 games away from a WNBA championship. They just beat the Connecticut Sun in 4 games and will now face the Las Vegas Aces in the Finals.

Stewart, or Stewie as they call her, had a career year. She averaged 23 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Her 23 points and 3.8 assists per game were career highs. She set the WNBA record most 40-point games in 1 season with 4.

She shot 46.5% from the field, another career high, and 35.5% from 3-point range. With a very productive team, Breanna led the way, and they haven't looked back. She has taken over the New York, or as the city has dubbed it – Stew York City.

Stewie earned Player of the Week 6x, Player of the Month 3x and was named the AP WNBA Player of the Year. She was also named to the WNBA 1st All Defense team. Just a

New York loaded up this year in the off season. Along with Stewart, they got Courtney Vandersloot and Jonquel Jones to team up with Sabrina Ionescu. This big 4 has been no joke all year and they've been led by Stewie. All 4 ladies averaged double digit points and all shooting above 42% from the field.

Extremely close MVP race and Unusual Vote Result

This year's MVP race was one of the closest, if not the closest, in WNBA history. Finalist for this years MVP were Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun, A'ja WIlson of the Las Vegas Aces and Stewart.

Wilson was looking to become only the 4th 3-time champ and only the 2nd player to ever win back-to-back. She had another killer year averaging 22.8 points, 9.5 rebounds per game and shot 55% from the field. She not only played in every game this season, but she also started them all.

Thomas would've been only the 2nd player in Sun history to win the MVP. She averaged 15.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game. Alyssa had an absolutely monster year and became a triple double machine. She had 5 triple doubles this year alone and now holds the league record with 9 in her career.

The votes came in with Stewart receiving 446 points, Thomas second with 439 points and then Wilson with 433 points. This year was only the second time in league history that the winner did not receive the most 1st place votes.

Thomas received the most 1st place votes with 23 votes, while Stewart got 20 and Wilson got 17. The other time this happened was in 1999, when Yolana Griffith had 23 1st place votes, but lost to a tie between Sheryl Swoops and Cynthia Cooper.

With all the personal records Stewie set to the contributions to her team, it is what gave her the edge in the race. Even with all the talent she is surrounded by, she still managed to have the year she did.

She is such a powerful force because she plays both sides of the ball. If she's not on one end knocking down buckets, she's on the other swatting balls or cleaning the glass. Her overall game is the other thing that makes her such a threat.

Breanna Stewart has had one of the most incredible careers since college. She will be gunning for that WNBA title again, making it her 3rd in her career. She has shown her whole life that she is a proven winner. Let's see if she can add a few more trophies to the case.
