Wimbledon 2026 Day Eight Predictions, Picks & Schedule cover (Taylor Fritz)

While the men's singles favorites had a successful weekend at Wimbledon, the women's singles draw was blown wide open with a trio of upsets on Saturday and Sunday. Today, the second half of the most famous fortnight in tennis kicks off with the remaining round of 16 matches, and a manic Monday may be ahead if the first week is any indication.

Saturday, two of the top three women's singles seeds fell in major upsets, as No. 2 Elena Rybakina lost to Elise Mertens and No. 3 Iga Swiatek lost to Alexandra Eala.

Yesterday, top seed Aryna Sabalenka joined them in exiting before the second week as she went down to No. 14 seed Naomi Osaka in a stunning straight-sets loss.

Osaka is not only in the Wimbledon quarters for the first time, but the four-time Grand Slam champ is the new favorite after her 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win over Sabalenka.

Osaka was the only underdog to win yesterday in women's singles, and the same occurred in men's singles, courtesy of Hubert Hurkacz's retirement down 2-4 in the fifth set after being up two sets against Jan-Lennard Struff.

Will any high seeds depart today? A few favorites appear to be vulnerable, but which spots should you target whether you make your picks at Lucky Rebel or other top online sportsbooks? Read on for the best bets for day eight of Wimbledon.

Wimbledon Day Eight Predictions and Picks

Grigor Dimitrov -3.5 Games (-120 at Lucky Rebel) vs. Arthur Fery

It was at this stage last year that Dimitrov suffered one of the most crushing moments in recent Grand Slam history. After winning the first two sets in his fourth-round match against top seed Jannik Sinner, Dimitrov suffered a pectoral injury while delivering an ace to make it 2-2 in the third set.

The injury ended his dreams of one of the best wins of his career, and it was a significant point in a stretch that saw the former world No. 3 fall out of the top 100 this year.

Ranked 146th ahead of Wimbledon, Dimitrov received a place in the main draw by way of a wildcard, and he has certainly made the most of it. Being active during the wrong eras has adversely impacted Dimitrov's career resume, but a healthy Dimitrov remains a tough out on any surface, no matter the opposition.

After entering his matches against No. 15 seed Jakub Mensik and former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini as an underdog, Dimitrov is the favorite for today's showdown with fellow wildcard Fery, the lone British player to advance beyond the second round in men's or women's singles.

Fery, who would move inside the top 70 of the next ATP rankings with a win today, will certainly have the home support behind him. But I expect his run to come to an end against Dimitrov, who showed in the first week that he can still be a beast when he is healthy, even at 35.

Flavio Cobolli +5.5 Games (-110 at Lucky Rebel) vs. Alex de Minaur

De Minaur made the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year, and he has been highly impressive thus far this year, needing only six hours, 26 minutes to win his first three matches against Roman Andres Burruchaga, Adrian Mannarino, and Zachary Svadja.

But I don't think he should be such a heavy favorite against Cobolli, even after the match the Italian had against Karen Khachanov in the last round.

Cobolli was bageled in the opening set, after which he exited the court for a medical timeout. It was a rather inauspicious start, but all's well that ends well, and things ended rather well for Cobolli as he prevailed 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-2 in four hours.

While Di Minaur has not spent much time on the court thus far, Cobolli has been on the court for more than 10 and a half hours across three consecutive 3+ hour matches.

Will that catch up to him? Perhaps, but even if he does exit the tournament today, he's shown his physical and mental mettle in his runs at the French Open and Wimbledon. His win over Khachanov was no small feat, and he will be ready for Di Minaur.

Along with taking him to cover the games spread, I will add an extra few sprinkles on Cobolli +1.5 sets (+118 at Lucky Rebel) and him to win outright and make a second consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal.
