Today, Wimbledon will crown a new women's singles champion, and friends will turn foes in an all-Czech clash between No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova and No. 9 seed Linda Noskova.

This will be the first such matchup in a Grand Slam women's singles final, and while it will certainly be a bittersweet moment given that one friend must lose, it will continue a run of great success for Czech women at Wimbledon.

Muchova or Noskova will be the third Czech champ in the last four years, following Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024, and this will be the fourth Wimbledon women's final in six years to feature a Czech player.

To book their friendly face-off, each took care of business against a tough opponent.

Muchova defeated No. 7 seed Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) in two hours, 38 minutes, surviving a match point on Gauff's serve in the deciding tiebreak before clinching the match on Gauff's serve.

Noskova, meanwhile, dispatched No. 12 seed Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4. Noskova did not get many break chances but converted one in the final game of each set to come away with the win in a match that somehow lasted only 81 minutes.

This will be just the second all-time meeting between Muchova and Noskova. They met in the third round of last year's US Open, with Muchova coming back from a set down to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2.

Muchova reached the French Open final in 2023 (and was up a break twice in the third set against Iga Swiatek before losing 2-6, 7-5, 4-6), and she has now reached at least the semifinals of every Slam.

To this point, there have been a lot of questions about her fitness and ability to come through in big moments. But the talent has always been there, and it feels like it is all coming together as she approaches her 30^th birthday.

Winning the Wimbledon final would be the cherry on top in a career year for Muchova. This is her fourth final of the year, and she is 2-1 in those finals, having won the WTA 1000 Qatar Open in February and the Bad Homburg Open prior to Wimbledon.

In her last three matches, Muchova has risen to the occasion against three former Grand Slam champions, defeating compatriot and former Wimbledon champion Krejcikova in the fourth round, four-time Slam winner Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals, and two-time major champion Gauff in the semis.

None of those wins came easy, and neither will this one. But those matches will have prepared her well for this one, and I feel like she will be ready to seize the moment this time around after agonizingly falling short at Roland Garros three years ago.
