Four American women's tennis stars reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, but only one will advance to the semifinals. That will be the winner of tonight's all-American affair between No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 4 seed Amanda Anisimova. The fourth all-time Pegula vs. Anisimova matchup will air on ESPN2, and it will take place after the match between No. 5 seed Elena Rybakina and No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek.

Pegula vs. Anisimova to Decide Final Semifinal Spot

Last night, No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 12 seed Elina Svitolina secured the first two semifinal spots, both by eliminating Americans.

Iva Jovic, the 29th seed, made the first of what should be many Grand Slam quarterfinal appearances for her, but the 18-year-old was no match for Sabalenka, who booked her sixth straight Grand Slam semi with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

Last night's other quarterfinal saw one of the favorites fall in stunning fashion, as Svitolina swept aside No. 3 seed Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2. It took just 59 minutes for Svitolina to advance to her first Grand Slam semifinal since Wimbledon in 2023.

Last night's two winners will meet in one semifinal, while the Rybakina vs. Swiatek winner will meet the Pegula vs. Anisimova winner in the other semifinal.

Which American will land in the last four? At Lucky Rebel and other top online sportsbooks, Anisimova is a slight favorite, but Pegula has won every competitive match between the two.

Pegula vs. Anisimova Prediction

Entering this matchup, there are a few positives on Pegula's side.

She has not lost to an American at a Grand Slam since a loss to Madison Keys in the fourth round of the 2023 US Open, and she has won her last two Grand Slam quarterfinals after losing the first six.

There is also something to be said for reaching her first Australian Open quarterfinal since 2023 and for making her first non-US Open quarter since Wimbledon in 2023, as well as not dropping a set in the tournament thus far. That includes her 6-3, 6-4 win over Keys, the ninth seed, in the fourth round.

But at present, it feels like Anisimova's ascendancy is in full swing.

Pegula vs. Anisimova: How Did They Get Here?

2026 Australian Open Results for No. 6 Jessica Pegula

  • Fourth Round: defeated No. 9 Madison Keys 6-3, 6-4
  • Third Round: defeated Oksana Selekhmeteva 6-3, 6-2
  • Second Round: defeated McCartney Kessler 6-0, 6-2
  • First Round: defeated Anastasia Zakharova 6-2, 6-1

2026 Australian Open Results for No. 4 Amanda Anisimova

  • Fourth Round: defeated Xinyu Wang 7-6 (7-4), 6-4
  • Third Round: defeated Peyton Stearns 6-1, 6-4
  • Second Round: defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 6-4
  • First Round: defeated Simona Waltert 6-3, 6-2

She is looking to make her third straight Grand Slam final after finishing runner-up to Swiatek at Wimbledon and Sabalenka at the US Open, and last year also featured her first two WTA 1000 titles (the Qatar Open and China Open) and reaching the semifinals of the WTA Finals.

The first three Pegula vs. Anisimova matchups have gone the way of Pegula, but the most recent of those meetings, a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win in the final of the 2024 Canadian Open, was nearly a year and a half ago.

A lot has changed since then for Anisimova, who was ranked 132nd at the time but is now fourth and will be certain to leave Melbourne as the highest-ranked American women's singles player if she defeats Pegula.

While these odds are tight, that shapes up as the likeliest outcome. At Anisimova's current level, the only two players who may be able to stop her are the two that she may face from here, Swiatek and Sabalenka.

Pegula vs. Anisimova Picks

Amanda Anisimova ML -125 (Lucky Rebel)

There are some intriguing options on the board for this matchup, but with an opportunity to back an in-form moneyline favorite at decent value, keeping it simple and focusing on that solitary bet feels like the best move here.
