Carlos Alcaraz - Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev 2026 Australian Open Men's Singles Semifinal Prediction & Picks

tennis

At 22, Carlos Alcaraz has already written a resume that most tennis players would envy. The one notable empty spot on that resume is an Australian Open final, which the world number one and top seed will tick off with a win over Alexander Zverev tonight. Alcaraz vs. Zverev is set for 10:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. Melbourne time), and viewers in the United States can watch the action live on ESPN.

Alcaraz Two Wins Away from Career Grand Slam

Over the last three and a half years, Alcaraz has collected two titles apiece at the US Open (2022 and 2025), Wimbledon (2023 and 2024), and the French Open (2024 and 2025).

But while he has two titles and three semifinal appearances at each of the other three Grand Slam tournaments, success has been elusive Down Under for the 22-year-old. However, in his third trip to the last eight, Alcaraz finally booked his first semifinal by sweeping home hopeful and No. 6 seed Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday.

That sets up the fifth Alcaraz vs. Zverev matchup in a Grand Slam, and the first in a Slam semifinal. Their head-to-head history includes a meeting in the 2024 French Open final, which saw Alcaraz come back from two sets to one down to claim the first of his back-to-back titles at Roland Garros.

Once again, Zverev is within touching distance of his Grand Slam breakthrough, but he will need to do it the hard way to make it happen, with Alcaraz ahead today and two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner likely looming in the final.

He will have to upset some long odds to take out Alcaraz, who is a heavy favorite at Lucky Rebel and other top online sportsbooks.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Over/Under Implied Probability True Probability
Carlos Alcaraz -5.5 (-109) -650 Over 38 (-113) 86.7% 83.9%
Alexander Zverev +5.5 (-117) +500 Under 38 (-114) 16.7% 16.1%

Alcaraz vs. Zverev Prediction

Alcaraz has had a fairly stress-free run to the semifinals, winning all five of his matches by straight sets.

He has had three tie-breaks and a couple of 7-5 sets, but he has successfully navigated every potential challenge. In the process, he has eliminated three seeded players, including de Minaur, who was coming off a couple of very impressive wins over No. 29 seed Frances Tiafoe and No. 10 seed Alexander Bublik.

Alcaraz vs. Zverev: How Did They Get Here?

2026 Australian Open Results for Carlos Alcaraz

  • Quarterfinal: defeated No. 6 Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2, 6-1
  • Fourth Round: defeated No. 19 Tommy Paul 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 7-5
  • Third Round: defeated No. 32 Corentin Moutet 6-2, 6-4, 6-1
  • Second Round: defeated Yannick Hanfmann 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 6-2
  • First Round: defeated Adam Walton 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2

2026 Australian Open Results for Alexander Zverev

  • Quarterfinal: defeated No. 25 Learner Tien 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 7-6 (7-3)
  • Fourth Round: defeated No. 18 Francisco Cerundolo 6-2, 6-4, 6-4
  • Third Round: defeated No. 26 Cameron Norrie 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1
  • Second Round: defeated Alexandre Muller 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4
  • First Round: defeated Gabriel Diallo 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 6-4, 6-2

That doesn't bode well for Zverev, though the three-time Grand Slam finalist is certainly capable of hanging with Alcaraz if he is on his game. Zverev is actually 5-3 all time against Alcaraz in hard court matches, including a 6-1, 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 win in the Australian Open quarterfinals two years ago.

However, with Alcaraz's current level of play, it's hard to see Zverev finding any sort of a firm foothold in this one, even if he happens to win a set.

Alcaraz vs. Zverev Picks

Alexander Zverev Under 17 Games Won (-108 at Lucky Rebel)

Even if this one goes four sets, this one could still comfortably finish under 17. The other enticing option is Alcaraz to cover the spread, but this feels like a safer bet. It will take a tremendous effort for Zverev to take the match to five sets, which is likely the only way he wins 17 or more games. With that in mind, this bet stands out as the strongest pick for the first semifinal.
