The United States and Australia go head to head in Seattle to kick off Friday's 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. The United States looked insanely good against Paraguay, but the South American side might've also played their worst match ever. Regardless, the status of Christian Pulisic is the biggest question mark surrounding the USMNT. He was subbed off at halftime and is dealing with a calf injury and he remains "day to day" at the time of this writing on Thursday afternoon. The stud has not trained with the team since that match.
Australia also surprised everyone by beating Turkey in their opener, but was it a fluke? Or are the Socceroos a force to be reckoned with? Now, I am going to wait on lineups before I actually press this button, as I may lean more towards the United States team total, which is priced at -130. Sure, you need two goals from the US in order to win this bet anyways, but I am not ashamed at hunting plus money and push potential, which we get with this wager.
I cannot stress how impressed I was with the USMNT against Paraguay. We can't afford to overreact, but I had them taking down this Australia side prior to the tournament beginning. Now that this match means so much more, I think Pochettino will get his boys in the right mindset, ready to attack and be aggressive.
While I wasn't overly impressed with the United States' defense, I could see them winning in a shutout here, which is priced around +145 for those interested. While Australia netted two against Turkey, they actually lost the expected goals battle and were killed on possession. With an atmosphere like Lumen Field behind them, I think the US can win this fairly easily.
