One of the toughest groups in the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off group stage early this afternoon, as France face Senegal at MetLife Stadium. These two are paired with Norway and Iraq, who also go head to head later today. France has been to two straight World Cup Finals after winning in 2018 and losing in 2022. We know how good this French side is. Their attack is phenomenal, the midfield is stacked, and they have some of the best defenders in the world. Their weakest spot on the team is between the posts, but I can't imagine them conceding very many shots. However, this team did concede a goal in each of their group stage games back in 2022. Lucky for them, Senegal isn't an offensive powerhouse.
Senegal lost to the United States in a friendly 3-2, then drew with Saudi Arabia 0-0 prior to the tournament. They ended the Africa Cup of Nations with three straight defensive shutouts, needing extra time to take down Morocco in the Final Match. Will they be able to contain the French attack? Or can they keep up offensively?

I lean with both teams to score in this match, but I do not see Senegal netting more than one (if they even find the back of the net). However, I also see them playing strong defensively, forcing this into a low scoring match. So far this tournament, goals have not been easy to create, especially when top teams go head to head.
Senegal is currently ranked No. 16 in the entire world. They are no slouch, and I expect them to surprise some people in this opening match, especially if France underestimates them beforehand. Do I think this French side comes unfocused? No. This team is well equipped to go right back to a third straight World Cup Final. However, they might be in for a rude awakening tonight.
Ultimately, I see this being a 2-0 or 2-1 French win, with either result cashing our same game parlay. If you are worried about France running up the score, bump up the total in our same game parlay to 4.5 for -125, as I don't see this being uglier than 3-1.
