See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Edmonton Oilers are set to visit the Detroit Red Wings in one of several NHL matchups slated for Tuesday, Feb. 7. It’s also the first Oilers vs Red Wings showdown of the season and both teams’ first outing after the All-Star break, making it interesting to see which side can pick up the win tonight.
The Oilers have played some fantastic hockey lately, going 7-0-1 over their last eight games. Their last outing saw them pick up a 7-3 blowout win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 28, highlighted by Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman and Darnell Nurse each had three-point nights.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings are coming off a 2-0 loss to the New York Islanders in their last outing. Detroit has been fairly average at home this season, though, leaving time to tell if the Red Wings have what it takes to handle the surging Oilers.
There are a plethora of betting opportunities heading into tonight’s Oilers vs Red Wings collision. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the game, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

Oilers vs Red Wings Prediction and Picks
Oilers vs Red Wings Prediction: Oilers 4, Red Wings 2
Oilers vs Red Wings Best Bets: Oilers ML (Best Value: -166 at BetOnline) & Under 6.5 Goals (Best Value: +104 at BetOnline)
The Oilers’ recent success can be linked to their best players showing up when they need them the most.
Hart Memorial Trophy favorite Connor McDavid (-700 odds on BetOnline Sportsbook) has racked up seven goals and eight assists over his team’s last eight games. He now paces the NHL with 41 goals and 92 points, solidifying himself as the best player in the game.
Not to be outdone, Leon Draisaitl has amassed seven goals and seven assists over that stretch. Meanwhile, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has also been playing at better than a point-per-game pace, tallying three goals with nine assists in his last eight outings.
However, the Oilers’ best player during their recent run has been Zach Hyman. The 30-year-old veteran leads all Edmonton players with 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) over the last eight games. He’s now up to a career-high 60 points on the year and is on pace to finish with 99 points.
It’s hard to imagine the Red Wings keeping pace with the Oilers’ surging offense. On top of being just 5-7-1 in their last 13 games, the Red Wings are only scoring 2.69 goals per game. It doesn’t help that opponents are averaging 3.23 G/PG over that span.
The Oilers also have a great chance to win due to how bad the Red Wings’ special teams have been at home as of late. Detroit’s power play is only clicking at 14.7% (5-of-34) over its last 10 home games. What’s even worse is that the penalty kill only has a 70.4% (19-of-27) success rate in those games.
Meanwhile, the Oilers’ PP unit has converted on 11-of-35 opportunities (31.4%) over the last 11 games. The penalty kill also hasn’t been too bad during that timeframe, operating at an 83.3% success rate (30-of-36).
Daily Faceoff projects that Jack Campbell will start in goal for the Oilers, giving them another boost. After all, Campbell has won each of his last six starts, playing to a 2.35 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.
Ville Husso has been confirmed as the Red Wings’ starting goaltender, which isn’t exactly encouraging. The Finnish netminder is only 5-5-0 in his last 10 starts with a 3.34 GAA and .884 SV%.
Having the advantage on offense, special teams and in goal, it’s clear that this is the Oilers’ game to lose. They’re playing much better than the middle-of-the-pack Red Wings and I don’t see their winning streak coming to an end tonight, making the Oilers a great pick on the moneyline.
I also recommend backing the total to finish under 6.5 goals. Though Edmonton’s offense is clicking, games at Little Bovada Arena tend to produce low-scoring affairs. After all, the total has gone under in 15 of Detroit’s 25 home games thus far.
Considering how four of the last five Oilers vs Red Wings matchups have also finished with the under, it’s more than likely that we’ll see fewer goals than expected tonight.
