Two teams who are right in the thick of things for the playoffs take the ice. The Minnesota Wild face the Boston Bruins at TD Garden this evening. These two teams last met in December and the Wild on the game 6-2.
Minnesota is 41-20-12 this season and third in the Central Division. They come into this game off a win over the Panthers on Thursday night. The Wild are 4-4-2 in their last ten games and are 21-10-4 on the road.
The Wild are stuck in such a weird spot. They have eight more points than the first see in the Pacific Division but sit third in their division. First place is out of each and if they hop the Stars, they're just going to play them anyways.
On offense, they rank twelfth in goals scored and seventh in shots on goal per game. Minnesota has the third best power play conversion in the league, so the Bruins better play smart. They could easily pay the price if they don't.
Their defense has been held together by goaltending. Goalie Filip Gustavsson is expected to get the start. He is 26-12-6 this season with a 2.49 GAA and a .911 save percentage.

Boston fighting for their lives to stay in a playoff spot

Bruins forwards Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak celebrate after scoring a goal.
The Bruins are 40-24-8 this year and fourth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a huge overtime win over their divisional rival, the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Boston is 5-2-3 in their last ten games and 26-10-1 at home.
They currently sit in the first wild card spot and are two points behind third place in their division. The first wild card spot is currently only being held by one point. This is going to be a crazy last ten games for the Bruins.
Home ice has been nice to them this season and will definitely play a factor today. Their offense ranks in the middle of the league on average for most categories. It's on the other side of the ice that they have trouble.
On defense, they rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. They don't play smart hockey and commit the second most penalties per game with a weak penalty kill.
In net, we're expected to see Jeremy Swayman. He is 28-15-4 this season with a 2.69 GAA and a .908 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Wild vd. Bruins picks.

This game is giving me chess match vibes. Both have great offenses, but I think the Bruins will make some defensive adjustments along with a solid performance from Swayman. Gustavsson is solid as well and these reasons have me taking the under.
Boston really needs to win this game, so I feel like they try and play smart. It could really hurt them to commit stupid penalties. Minnesota is too good to just give opportunities too. My gut says both teams play down a bit tomorrow and we cash this under.
I like for Jeremy Swayman to get over his saves line. It should be around 26-27 saves while the Bruins allow over 30 shots on goal per game and the Wild shoot almost 30 shots per game. This should come at a decent value of -125.
