The playoff push is absolutely insane this year in both conferences. Tonight, the Dallas Stars visit the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. These two teams last met back in November, and the Islanders won 3-2 in regulation.
Dallas is 43-17-11 this season and second in the Central Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Devils on Tuesday by a score of 6-4. The Stars are 5-3-2 in their last ten games and 21-7-7 on the road this year.
Only two teams have clinched a playoff spot already and the Stars are one of them. They are second in the league, not just their division. If they were in the Pacific Division, they'd be in first by a fourteen-point lead.
Their offense is nasty, ranking second in the league for both power play conversion and shooting percentage. On defense, they rank second best for goals allowed per game and allow the eighth least shots on goal per game.
In net, we're expected to see Jake Oettinger. He is 29-10-6 this season with a 2.59 GAA and a .900 save percentage. Oetty has been a huge part of this team's success and they're going to need him tonight.

New York is on the ropes and needs to win every game they can

Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer celebrates with teammates after they score a goal.
The Islanders are 40-27-5 this year and fourth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a bad loss to the Blackhawks on Tuesday. New York is 5-5-0 in their last ten games and 19-12-2 at home this season.
This team is really shooting themselves in the foot. They went from the third seed in the division to being not in the playoffs. Now, it's on a one-point difference to get back in the playoffs, but they are losing must win games.
New York also has a tough schedule in front of them the next few games. They play the Panthers, Penguins and Sabres in just their next three games. The Isles are two points out of second in the Metro, so anything can still happen.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to get the start. He is 26-18-2 this year with a 2.48 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Stars vs. Islanders picks.

I hate to have to do it, but it's the right play. The Islanders are really out matched here going to the stretch and we're getting great value. It's an absolute must win for the Islanders and I pray they win, but it's going the other way.
Sorokin can be the reason they win this game. If he locks in and becomes the brick wall he can be, they have a very good chance. The Isles next problem will be getting passed Jake Oettinger. The under is definitely a look in this game.
Despite all that, I think the Stars out play the Isles and win this 3-1 or 4-1. Dallas is on fire right now and straight cooking. New York hasn't looked good their last few games and they're now playing a high caliber team.
Give me Sorokin to get over his saves line. It's going to be set anywhere between 26-28 saves as the Stars shoots around 26 shots per game and the Isles allow 28 per game. If they pour it on like I think, we're going to see the Stars get easy 30 shots on goal.
