Two fun teams face off against each other tonight and we have you covered. The San Jose Sharks will take on the Detroit Red Wings at the Little Caesars Arena. These two teams last played back in November, and the Wings won 3-2 in a shootout.
Detroit is 28-16-4 this season and are second in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Bruins on Tuesday. The Wings are 6-3-1 in their last ten games, 16-8-1 at home and 8-4-2 in divisional games.
This team has been a huge surprise this season. They play in an extremely tough division and are the third best team in the league. The Wings offense only ranks in the middle of the league for things like goals scored and shots on goal per game, but still get it done.
On defense, it's much of the same as the offense. Ranking in the middle of the league in goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Their penalty kill is solid, but their power play is even better, ranking fifth best in the league.
Goalie John Gibson is expected to get the start. He is 17-9-1 this season with a 2.75 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Gibson didn't play in the last game vs. the Sharks so a fresh face.

San Jose continues to contend in the Pacific Division

Sharks forward Ty Dellandrea moves the puck around the back of the Wings net.
The Sharks are 24-19-4 this year and are currently fourth in the Pacific Division. They come into this game off a win vs. the Capitals last night. San Jose is 7-3-0 in their last ten games, 11-10-0 on the road, and 7-7-2 in divisional matches.
Very young roster on this team and the rebuild is looking pretty nice right now. Last year's number one pick Macklin Celebrini looks like he's in his seventh career year. The kid has 24 goals and 46 assists, which is the third most points and second most assists in the league.
Offensively and defensively, they're doing a lot of good things, but more good on offense than defense. They rank fourteenth in goals scored and thirteenth in power play conversion. The Sharks don't shoot a lot but do have the fourth best shooting percentage.
This team needs to figure out defense. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Goaltender Yaroslav Askarov is expected to start. He is 16-11-1 this season with a 3.54 GAA and a .891 save percentage.

I think we see a tight game here. Two teams who have been playing well with a ton of skilled players. San Jose showed they can compete with Detroit once already this season and have only improved since.
Askarov has been pretty decent this season and it'll be his first time facing the Wings. If he can hold it down and keep them under his GAA, then we have ourselves a tight matchup. If I had to give a lean, I think the Sharks win this game in overtime.
Detroit absolutely unloaded last game and shoot much more than San Jose. I like for Dylan Larkin to record 3 or more shots on goal for -140. A little juicy, but they're going to unload again, and he had four last game they played.
The other play I have to go with is Askarov to record over his saves line. The Wings put up over 30 shots on goal last game, and I think it happens again. The line should come out around 27-28 saves for probably around -125.
