It's a divisional battle from the Atlantic tonight in the NHL. The Buffalo Sabres will take on the Florida Panthers. These two teams met right before the Olympic break and the Sabres won 5-3.
Buffalo is 33-19-6 this season and third in the Atlantic Division. They come this game off a nice 2-1 win over the Devils on Wednesday. The Sabres are 7-2-1 in their last ten games, 16-11-3 and an impressive 11-4-3 in divisional matchups.
This team has been playing well and finding the back of the net. They rank ninth in the league for goals scored and are eighteenth in shots on goal per game. Low shot count for them, but they have the fifth best shooting percentage in the league.
Defense hasn't been terrible. They rank fourteenth in goals allowed per game but get peppered allowing the twenty ninth most shots on goal per game. The Sabres commit almost five penalties per game, but kill of 83% of them, which is sixth best.
Goalie Alex Lyon is expected to start. He is 14-8-3 this season with a 2.52 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Lyon is 11-2 in his last 13 starts and will look to get win number 12.

Florida tries to get it together sitting at the bottom of the division

The Panthers are 29-25-3 this year and are last in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a dominant win last night vs. the Maple Leafs. Florida is 4-6-0 in their last ten games, 15-13-3 at home and 6-9-1 in divisional games.
This team has been such a disappointment this season. They really need to go on a run to get back in the wild card race as they're 8 points out of the second spot. If any team can do it, you know it's the two-time defending champs.
Florida hasn't played well in division, so hopefully they can build off last night's win vs. the Leafs. It makes you wonder if they'll be tired playing the second game of a back-to-back, but they just had plenty of rest and should be fine.
It's going to take this powerful offense to click. Buffalo has played well this year and pulled out the win last matchup. Their rankings for offense are towards the bottom of the league with the way they've been playing.
Defense has been a bit better. They rank fifth in shots on goal allowed per game so they're clamping offenses down. The Panthers have the seventh best penalty kill in the league but also commit about 6 penalties per game.
In net, we're expected to see Daniil Tarasov. He is 8-8-2 this season with a 2.74 GAA and a .899 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Sabres vs. Panthers picks.

Give me Buffalo to win this game, especially at plus money. This team looks great this season and were able to shake their rust off and grab a win on Wednesday. I think they take care of business in Florida and steal a win.
They find the back of the net a good amount and don't have to face Bobrovsky. The key will be them playing strong defense to hold back this Panthers offense and protect Lyon. I think this will happen because the Sabres will get out to an early lead.
I like Tage Thompson to get 3 or more shots on goal, and you can take it to 4. You can tell he came back after winning gold with a swagger. More power to him and especially if it's going to reflect in his play. Sprinkle the anytime goal too.
