We're heading to the Atlantic Division for a battle tonight. The Buffalo Sabres will take the short trip North to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. These two teams met earlier in the year and the Sabres won 5-3

Toronto is 24-19-9 this year and seventh in the Atlantic. They come into this game on a four-game losing streak after another loss to the Avalanche on Sunday. The Leafs are 4-4-2 in their last ten game and 16-8-6 at home this year.

It's been a bit of a rough stretch right now. The team has not been performing to its best abilities, even if it looks like they are on paper. Toronto ranks eleventh in goals scored and twenty first in shots on goal per game but has the seventh best shooting percentage.

Their defense hasn't been the best. The Leafs rank in the bottom of the league for both goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. They play smart hockey on defense, only committing less than four penalties per game and having the fourth best penalty kill in the league.

Goalie Anthony Stolarz is expected in net. He is 6-6-1 this season with a 3.29 GAA and .880 save percentage. Stolarz is 4-2 in this last six starts and will look to avenge his last outing vs. the Sabres where he allowed five goals.

Buffalo tries to make it four wins in a row tonight on the road

Rasmus Dahlin and Matthew Knies

Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin moves the puck away from Leafs forward Matthew Knies.

The Sabres are 29-17-5 and are third in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game on a three-game winning streak after a shutout win over the Islanders. Buffalo is 7-2-1 in their last ten games and are 13-11-2 on the road.

This team has looked great over the past month or so. They rank seventh in goals scored and twentieth in shots on goal per game. Their power play ranks right around twentieth and they have the fifth best shooting percentage in the league.

It's been a little rough on defense, but they've been getting it done. Buffalo ranks fourteenth in goals scored but in the bottom of the league for shots on goal allowed pet game. Like their power play, the Sabres penalty kill ranks in the top of the league.

In net, we're expected to see Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Luukkonen is 11-7-2 this year with a 2.60 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Sabres vs. Leafs picks.

Give me the road team to keep it moving. They had a seven-game winning streak a few weeks ago and are looking like they're on their way to another one. Buffalo looked great against an Islanders team who has been rather good this season.

I think the Leafs struggles will continue. These two teams are normally swapped in the standing, but not this year. The Sabres have been fast, and I think they take advantage of Stolarz again. I like them to get out to an early lead and keeping it all game.

Give me Tage Thompson to get 4 or more shots on goal. He is due for a big shooting performance and has 5 shots on goal vs. the Leafs last game. I'll also be sprinkling his anytime goal with him scoring twice in his last three games and having two in their last matchup.

I'm also leaning with the over in this game. Both teams allow a lot of shots for opportunities there and both goalies can be leaky. The Sabres have broken their team total of 3 or more goals in nine of their last ten games and both teams are averaging over three goals per game.
