We have a battle of New York today on Long Island. The Buffalo Sabres will face the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. These two teams last faced off last month and the Sabres won in a shootout 3-2.
Buffalo is 28-17-5 this season and are fourth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game on a two-game winning streak after a win over the Canadiens on Thursday. The Sabres are 7-2-1 in their last ten games and are 12-11-2 on the road this year.
Not too far off a long win streak, the Sabres have been battling. They currently have possession of the first Wild Card spot. Their offense has been explosive as of late, scoring 3 or more goals in their last nine out of ten games.
Their defense doesn't rank well in the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Buffalo commits almost five penalties per game but ranks sixth in penalty kill percentage. Goaltending has been solid for the team so far this season.
Goalie Alex Lyon is expected to get the start. He is 11-6-3 this season with a 2.83 GAA and a .907 save percentage. Lyon will look to get his fifth win in a row vs. the Islanders in his career.

New York will try to get the win in front of home crowd this afternoon

Islanders forwards Anthony Duclair and Mat Barzal celebrate after scoring a goal.
The Islanders are 27-18-5 this year and are third in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Kraken on Wednesday. New York is 5-4-1 in their last ten games and are 14-8-2 at home this season.
This is the Islanders first game home after a seven-game road trip. They will be hyped to be back in front of the home crowd and it should be a packed-out arena. There is a huge snowstorm coming to Long Island on Sunday, so most schools will close Monday and nothing better than a day game on a snow day.
Offense has been getting the job done so far this season, even though they don't rank high in categories like goals scored and shots on goal per game. Center Bo Horvat is due to come back from injury, which will be a great addition back.
On defense, the Isles play a better game. They rank eighteenth in shots on goal per game but are fourth in goals allowed per game. New York commits about four penalties per game and kills of 82% of those penalties. The Isles penalty kill is much better than their power play.
In net, we're expected to see David Rittich. He is 11-6-3 this season with a 2.49 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Sabres vs. Islanders picks.

This should be a really good game. Both teams are competing well and in playoff positions. I think they're going to kind of wear each other out while the goalies carry each team. This has the potential to be an old Islanders typical snooze fest.
Again, good goaltending will be a big reason why, so no knock to either offense. They'll get their chances but will have to be capitalized on because there won't be many for either team. Rittich and Lyon are both having solid seasons in their respective roles.
I like for Bo Horvat to get his 3 or more shots on goal. He should be excited to be back and one of the team's best offensive players, so he'll be firing the puck. A sneaky one for 3 or more shots on goal for plus money is Emil Heineman. Guy had 10 shots on goal last game vs. Buffalo; we have to sprinkle.
