Nice big slate for this cold Saturday for many, so let's hit the ice! The Nashville Predators will face the New York Islanders at UBS Arena tonight. These two teams played each other back at the beginning of January and the Predators won 2-1 in a shootout.
New York is 30-19-5 this season and are third in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a three-game winning streak after another win over the Rangers on Thursday. The Islanders are 6-4-0 in their last ten games and 15-9-2 at home.
You know they have to be feeling good after back-to-back wins over their rival New York Rangers. The Islanders looked great their last two games and goalie Ilya Sorokin has looked fantastic. He picked up another shutout two games ago to total six on the season, leading the league.
The Islanders offense hasn't been the most electric but are getting the job done. They rank twenty fourth in goals scored and eighteenth in shots on goal per game. Per usual, their power play ranks toward the bottom of the league. It's an area that if they could improve, it could make them even more dangerous.
We are expected to see Sorokin again tonight. He is 18-12-2 this season with a 2.38 GAA and a .917 save percentage. Sorokin is 6-2-0 in his last eight starts and has only allowed one goal in his last two games.

Nashville comes in trying to break three game losing streak

Predators forward Filip Forsberg takes the puck past Islanders forward Casey Cizikas.
The Preds are 24-23-6 this year and are fifth in the Central Division. They come into this game on a three-game losing streak after an overtime loss to the Devils on Thursday. Nashville is 4-4-2 in their last ten games and 10-11-4 on the road.
There were very high hopes for this team after last year's acquisitions, but they haven't delivered. Pickups like Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Michael Bunting on offense should equal improvements and it hasn't. All three players are struggling, and Ryan O'Reilly leads the team in points.
On paper, they're having a hard time finding the back of the net, ranking twenty fifth in the league. They rank in the middle of the league for shots on goal and power play conversion. Nashville also doesn't shoot the puck well with a 10% shooting percentage.
Their defense is not good to be blunt. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. The Preds do have a decent penalty kill which they need, committing over four penalties per game.
In net, we're expected to see Juuse Saros. He is 20-17-4 this season with a 2.93 GAA and a .895 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Predators vs. Islanders picks.

Well, I know it's a homer pick, but I can't pick against my boys. We're getting great value for a team who plays well at home and playing well overall. Nashville has had too many issues this year and the Islanders need to get that revenge.
The home crowd should be rocking for the boys after back-to-back wins over the Rangers. Nothing like a filled arena on a Saturday night for the Islanders. I think they are the better team and can't afford to not get the easy wins like this game.
Give me Bo Horvat to get 3 or more shots on goal. He didn't play the last game these two played and I think he could be an X-factor tonight. Horvat still hasn't had a breakout game since returning from injury and this is a great spot. Sprinkle the anytime goal as well.
Last play I like is the under 5.5 goals. Both teams' offenses can be weak and Sorokin has been a brick wall as of late. If he can continue that play, this game should go under easily.
