It's almost getting to the nitty gritty, but it has long been there for the Eastern Conference. The Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Boston Bruins a TD Garden. These two teams last played earlier this year and the Bruins won 1-0.
Pittsburgh is 31-15-13 this season and are tied for second in the Metro Division with the New York Islanders. They come into this game off a big 5-0 win over the Knights on Sunday. The Penguins are 7-1-2 in their last ten games and 16-7-6 on the road.
Unfortunately, as we all know, the Pens lost Sidney Crosby to a lower body injury during the Olympics. He is on the IR, but they do expect him to return this season. However, it's a huge blow to this team's momentum, especially this time of year.
This team has performed well on both ends of the ice. They rank in the top ten of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game as well as having the sixth best power play. Pittsburgh's defense falls in the same area for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game.
Goalie Stuart Skinner is expected to get the start. He is 19-12-6 this season with a 2.68 GAA and a .891 save percentage. Skinner also has two shutouts this season with his time between the Oilers and Penguins.

Boston needs to keep winning to stay in the playoff hunt

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin tries to screen Boston Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo.
The Bruins are 33-21-5 this season and fifth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Flyers on Saturday and sit in the second wild card spot. Boston is 5-2-3 in their last ten games and are 22-8-1 at home.
It's been a fun ride for the Bruins after a slow start. They've battled back, but the fight is not over. The Eastern Conference is divided by a few points between top and bottoms seeds, so everything's up for grabs.
Offense has been decent for the Bruins. They rank eighth in goals scored and have the third best shooting percentage. Their power play is fourth best and they're on fire at home, so this is going to be good.
Now defense is a different story. It's where they struggle, ranking in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal per game. Their weakest point is committing the second most penalties per game and rank twenty seventh in penalty kill.
In net, we're expected to see Jeremy Swayman. He is 22-13-3 this season with a 2.85 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Penguins vs. Bruins picks.

We have some decent goaltending on our hands on top of one defense that is really good. Give me the game total under 6.5 goals for the -120 value. I could easily see this game becoming a chess match between two solid teams.
I like for the Bruins to squeeze out the win here. They look so good at home this season and come in with a healthy squad. I could easily see a 2-1 or 3-2 final score in this game. Could be a decent game for some props…specifically shots.
Give me David Pastrnak to get 4 or more shots on goal. The heart and soul of this team needs to step up and put pucks on net for them to win. Pasta hasn't hit the mark since back from the break, so he's due to have himself a game.
