We have a small slate today, so let's head to New York. The Utah Mammoth are in town to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. These two teams just met back in November, and the Mammoth won 3-2.
Utah is 19-20-3 this season and sixth in the Central Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Devils on Saturday. The Mammoth are 5-5-0 in their last ten games and 10-13-2 on the road this year.
In their second season, the team is kind of mid. They rank eighteenth in goals scored and fourteenth in shots on goal per game on offense. Their power play is terrible, ranking in the bottom of the league.
They do tighten things up on defense. Utah ranks eleventh in goals allowed and third in shots on goal allowed per game. The Mammoth are committing just over four penalties per game on average, and they kill off 82% of them, eighth best in the league.
Goalie Karel Vejmelka is expected to get the start. He is 17-11-2 this season with a 2.72 GAA and a .895 save percentage. Vejmelka played solid in the game in November to get Utah the win.

New York continues to stay in contention in the Metro Division

Rangers forward Vincent Trocheck takes a shot on Mammoth goalie Karel Vejmelka in their last game played.
The Rangers are 20-18-5 this year and seventh in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a win in the Winter Classic on Saturday vs. the Panthers. New York is 4-5-1 in their last ten games and 5-10-3 at home this season.
It's been a struggle at home for the Rangers, so always a red flag when they're home this season. The offense has been very weak, ranking in the bottom of the league for both goals scored and shots on goal per game. Their shooting percentage is crummy, and their power play is mid.
Defensively, they've been a bit better, but that's because of good goaltending. They rank sixth in goals allowed, but twentieth in shots on goal allowed per game. So, they're facing a good number of shots, but the goalies are stepping up.
In net, we're expected to see Igor Shesterkin. He is 17-12-4 this season with a 2.47 GAA and a .912 save percentage. With how weak their offense has been – Shesterkin is their best player right now. Let's check out the odds and get into the Mammoth vs. Rangers picks.

I like the Mammoth in this spot. The Rangers have struggled so much at home, plus they're coming off a six-goal performance. I see a letdown spot for them vs. a very young and fast Utah team. We're getting plus money on this play as well.
The Mammoth just need to get the best of Shesterkin again. It can easily be done; they just have to keep throwing the puck at the net and they will. Guys like Dylan Guenther and Clayton Keller, who are both playing well right now, will need to step up for Utah to get this done.
Give me Dylan Guenther to get 3 or more shots on goal. He has hit in his last seven games straight and coming off the miss vs. the Rangers last game. I see this as a great bounce back spot for Utah and he'll be heavily involved.
Another play I like is for Shesterkin to get over his saves line. It should be around 26-27 saves at -125. The Mammoth average around 29 shots per game while the Rangers allow just about that many. I expect Shesterkin to get peppered and see over 30 shots.
