We have two teams who are buzzing this year faceoff tonight. The New York Islanders head out to the mid-west to take on the Minnesota Wild. These two teams met back in November, and the Wild won 5-2.
New York is 24-15-5 this season and second in the tight Metro Division. They come into this game off a shootout loss to the Predators on Thursday. The Islanders are 5-3-2 in their last ten game and 10-7-3 on the road this year.
Their offense is definitely questionable this year, ranking towards the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Per usual, their power play is trash again. This is an area the Islanders really need to improve on. Regardless, they keep finding ways to win.
The defense has been pretty solid. The Islanders rank fourth in goals allowed per game and seventh for penalty kill. They are allowing a decent amount of shots per game, ranking in the middle of the league. It comes down to goaltending for this defense.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to get the start tonight. He is 13-10-2 this season with a 2.44 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Sorokin missed a few weeks with a lower body injury but has since returned.

Minnesota looks to keep up in the competitive Central Division

Wild forward Mats Zuccarello moves the puck into the offensive zone.
The Wild are 26-11-8 this year and are third in the Central Division. They come into this game off an overtime win over the Kraken on Thursday. Minnesota is 5-2-3 in their last ten games and 13-4-5 at home this season.
It's been a great start to the season for the Wild. Their offense has been getting the job done while only ranking in the middle of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Minnesota's power play is also pretty good, ranking eleventh in the league.
On defense, their goaltending has been very good, ranking second in the league for goals allowed. Otherwise, they have been struggling as they rank in the bottom of the league for shots on goal allowed per game and their penalty kill. Luckily for them, they commit the least penalties per game in the league.
In net, we're expected to see Filip Gustavsson. He is 14-9-4 this year with a 2.48 GAA and a .912 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Wild picks.

I think we see goals in this game for some reason. Both offenses have been playing decent and both defenses struggle. There are only so much the goaltenders can handle before they start letting a few go in.
Sorokin is just coming off a shutout the other night over the Devils. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in a little too comfortable and has his hands full. Gustavsson is good to give up two goals and if the Wild play the same game they did in November, then this game is going over.
I like for Sorokin to hit his saves line. Minnesota is going to fire the puck at him, and he should see 30+ shots tonight. His saves line should drop around 27-28 saves and he should clear this line well over 30.
Give me Mat Barzal to get 3 or more shots on goal for +108. With no Horvat, Barzal will need to step up and lead the first line. He has been very active this season and will definitely be shooting tonight. We'll take the plus money all day.
