We have a full slate today, so let's get into one of the games up north. The New York Islanders headed to Canada to take on the Winnipeg Jets. These two teams played once earlier this year, and the Jets won 5-2.
New York is 25-15-5 this season and are second in the Metro Division. They come into this game off an overtime win on Saturday vs. the Wild. The Islanders are 6-2-2 in their last ten games and 11-7-3 on the road.
Offense has been all over for the Islanders this year. They rank towards the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Two categories that they started out the year at the top of. Another year, another failed power play for New York as well.
One thing they were losing but seem to be getting back to is defense. They rank fourth in goals allowed and tenth in penalty kill. The Isles are toward the bottom of the league for shots on goal allowed per game, their goals allowed per game is a testament to their goaltending.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin will get the start tonight. He is 14-10-2 with a 2.46 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Sorokin is tied for the most shutouts in the league with four as well.

Winnipeg will look to make it a winning streak tonight at home

Winnipeg Jets left wing Kyle Connor gets ready for the puck drop.
The Jets are 17-22-5 this season and last in the Central Division. This team was last year's Presidents Trophy winner and is currently the worst team in the league. The come into this game on a two-game winning streak but are 2-5-3 in their last ten games.
It has to be gross inside that locker room. I can't even imagine what the moral is like in the building. They have to be thrilled about the Senators shenanigans as a distraction, but we still see them.
Ok, back to the team…their offense ranks towards the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Winnipeg ranks twentieth in power play conversion and fourteenth in shooting percentage.
They could use some work on defense. The Jets rank eighteenth in goals allowed and fourteenth in shots on goal allowed per game. They're committing almost five penalties per game and only killing off 78% of them.
In net, we're expected to see Connor Hellebuyck. He is 10-12-4 this season with a 2.70 GAA and a .901 save percentage. What a difference a year makes. Let's check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Jets picks.

Coming off a nice win vs. a tough team, I think the Islanders can pull this one off. They've improved on the road as the season has gone on, and they should be able to take the Jets down. We're also getting plus money on the play as well.
I think Sorokin is going to be a big factor here. I mean that in the sense that I don't think the Islanders offense crushes and will need his help to secure the win. Watch for him to get over his saves line as he'll most likely get peppered.
Between both goalies, I think the total goes under. Each one of these teams have decent offense but are facing two of the best goalies in the game. We, most likely, could see a chess match.
With no Horvat still, I think we go back to Mat Barzal to get 3 or more shots on goal. He will be the key focus of the offense with Horvat out and will be needed to shoot to help make up for Horvat's offense. You could pair it with him to record a point for plus money.
