We're going to the late game on the slate in California. The New York Islanders are in town to take on the Anaheim Ducks. These two teams last met in December and the Islanders won 5-2.
New York is 35-21-5 this season and are tied for second place in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a five-game winning streak after another win over the Panthers on Sunday. The Islanders are 8-2-0 in their last ten games and 18-11-3 on the road.
This Isles team has been exciting this season, and a lot is due to rookie Matthew Schaefer. The 18-year-old, number one draft pick is taking the league by storm. He currently has 20 goals and 24 assists on the year.
Offense ranks in the bottom of the league despite their success. It's on defense where they shine a bit more. They rank fourth best for goals allowed per game and ninth best in penalty kill. New York commits about four penalties per game, so a strong PK is needed.
In net, we're going to see backup goalie David Rittich. He is 13-8-3 this season with a 2.63 GAA and a .899 save percentage. Rittich has been such a solid addition to backup Sorokin in Varlamov's absence.

Anaheim looks to try and regain first place in the Pacific

Anaheim Ducks players Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier celebrate with teammates after scoring a goal.
The Ducks are 33-24-3 this year and second in the Pacific Division. They come into this game of a loss to the Avalanche last night. Anaheim is 8-2-0 in their last tend games and 20-9-1 at home this season.
This young squad is showing out this year. Cutter Gauthier has been fantastic as well as Leo Carlsson. The team has been this successful without veteran Troy Terry too. Mikael Granlund is unfortunately out with an upper body injury.
Their offense is pretty solid for a young squad. They rank thirteenth in goals scored and third in shots on goal per game. The Ducks aren't the best on the power play nor do they have a high shooting percentage.
Defensively they're terrible. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed per game. Anaheim plays sloppy and commits five penalties per game while only killing off 77.5% of them.
Goalie Villie Husso is expected to start. He is 6-5-1 this season with a 3.00 GAA and a .882 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Ducks picks.

I can't go against my boys right now. Their past few wins have been battles, but they've still gotten the W in the end. This is going to be a really tough match for them, especially with the way the Ducks are playing, but I think they can do it.
Goaltending will be the X factor in this game. Rittich will need to hold off these young guys, but the Islanders will also get Husso over Dostal. This could be the difference maker and also send the total over 6.5 goals.
Give me Rittich over his saves line. The Ducks pepper the net, and the Islanders will allow a lot. The line should come out under 30 saves and Rittich will see over 30 shots to clear the saves line. He's coming off a 29 save performance off 33 shots.
