We're heading to the West Coast to wrap up today's slate. The New York Islanders are facing the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. This is the second time these two teams meet this season and the Canucks won 4-1.
Vancouver is 16-27-5 this season and last in the Pacific Division. They come into this game on a disgusting ten game losing streak after another loss last night to the Oilers. The Canucks are 0-8-2 in their last ten games and 4-13-3 at home.
It's been a rough season so far for the Canucks. They haven't been able to get anything going and they lost their captain, Quinn Hughes, to a trade earlier this season. Vancouver ranks in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game.
The defense is a bigger problem than their lack of offense. It's like defense is optional for this team. They rank dead last in goals allowed and fourth to last in shots on goal allowed per game. Vancouver commits over four penalties per game and has the third worst penalty kill per game.
Goalie Kevin Lankinen is expected to get the start. He is 6-13-4 this season with a 3.36 GAA and a .887 save percentage. The Islanders will look to take advantage of that high GAA.

New York needs to get a win tonight on this long road trip

Islanders forward Bo Horvat stands in front of Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen waiting for the puck.
The Islanders are 26-17-5 this year and second in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Flames on Saturday. New York is 5-4-1 in their last ten games and are 12-9-3 on the road this season.
It's been a hell of a start for this squad. After drafting Matthew Schaefer number one in the offseason, no one knew what to expect out of him. He's been everything and then some for the Islanders as his impact has been more than felt.
This team doesn't play the best hockey but finds way to win. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. New York doesn't shoot the puck well and has one of the worst power plays in the league.
On defense, they play a much better game. They rank seventeenth for shots on goal allowed but are third best in goal allowed. The Islanders also rank eighth in the league for penalty kill. That goals allowed is a testament to the goaltending.
In net, goalie Ilya Sorokin is going to be in net. He is 15-11-2 this year with a 2.47 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Sorokin leads the league with five shutouts. Let's check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Canucks picks.

The Islanders need to get one back after that bad loss to the Flames and this is a perfect bounce back spot. They are better than the Canucks on paper and overall, so this should be a win for them. It's a little juicy, but we're going to pay the juice man here.
I think the Islanders have a little bit of a breakout game. They should put up some goals tonight, so the over on their team total for goals is definitely a look. This should be an easy one for them, especially if Sorokin stays in form.
This game is definitely going under the 5.5 goals between the slower offenses and Sorokin in net. I wouldn't be surprised if he has another shutout and the Isles score 4 goals. Another look will be taking Sorokin for under his saves line with this Canucks offense.
