Last day of the NHL before the Olympic break and we have a packed slate. The Carolina Hurricanes will head to the world's most famous arena to take on the New York Rangers. These two teams last played at the end of December and the Canes won 3-2 in overtime.
Carolina is 35-15-6 this season and leading the tight Metro Division. They come into this game on a two-game winning streak after beating the Senators on Tuesday night. The Canes are 7-1-2 in their last ten games, 14-7-4 on the road and 11-3-1 in divisional games.
After a little bit of a slow start, the Hurricanes are right back where they're used to being. Their offense is electric, ranking in the top five of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Although they pepper the net, Carolina's shooting percentage only ranks eighteenth.
On defense, they clamped teams down like the past years. They rank seventh best in goals allowed and are the best in shots on goal allowed per game. The Canes commit around four penalties per game and kill off about 80% of them.
Goaltender Brandon Bussi is expected to start. He is 22-3-1 this season with a 2.27 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Bussi is tied for fourth most wins and second for GAA amongst all goalies.

Rangers may have packed it in for the season after Panarin trade

Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin defends along the post waiting to see if they puck will come on net.
The Rangers are 22-28-6 this year and last in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a three-game losing streak after another loss to the Penguins on Saturday. New York is 2-8-0 in their last ten games, 6-14-4 at home and 6-9-1 in divisional matches.
It's been a rough year for the Rangers. They just parted ways with star Artemi Panarin who was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for a bag of chips. The GM of the Rangers should be fired as well to get nothing in return for that caliber of a player.
Offense has been pitiful for New York. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal scored per game. The Rangers somehow have a decent power play, ranking tenth in the league. Terrible shooting percentage to so along with the low shot count as well.
Defensively things are much better. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed. New York commits almost four penalties per game and kills off about 80% of them.
In net, we're going to see Jonathan Quick. He is 4-13-2 this season with a 3.00 GAA and a .883 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Hurricanes vs. Rangers picks.

This should be an easy one for the Canes. They are absolutely buzzing as of late, and I don't see the Rangers having an answer for them. Not having Shesterkin is really the icing on the cake for them. Carolina should light Quick up all game and I think they win by the 2 or more goals.
These teams aren't even close to even, on paper and on the ice. There won't be much resistance for the Canes in this game. Bussi is a stud this season and should have no problem tonight. May even want to sprinkle the shutout!
I like for Seth Jarvis to get 3 or more shot on goal. Jarvis has hit in his last two out of three games and didn't in the last game they played vs. the Rangers. I think he absolutely peppers the net tonight and cashes this with ease.
The other play I'm going with is Jonathan Quick to get 27 or more saves. The Canes are going to unload on him and we already know they shoot a lot. The only concern I will have is if he lets up too many early and he gets pulled, but we're going to ride with it.
