We have an exciting one on our hands tonight. The New Jersey Devils will head across the bridge to take on the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. These two teams played a little over a week ago and the Islanders won 2-1.
New York is 23-15-4 this season and are second in the Metro Division. They come into this game off an overtime winner vs. the Maple Leafs on Saturday. The Islanders are 5-4-1 in their last ten games, 13-8-2 at home and 6-5-2 in divisional matches.
This team is coming off a thriller as they won off an electric goal from rookie Matthew Schaefer. Schaefer netted two goals in the game, including that game winner. Kid has been an absolute stud this year and making a claim for the Calder Trophy.
The Islanders offense and defense are nothing special. They rank towards the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal allowed per game. On defense, they are a bit better between the pipes, ranking seventh in goals allowed per game.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin will make his return to the net tonight. He is 12-10-2 this year with a 2.55 GAA and a .910 save percentage. Sorokin is returning after missing six games with a lower body injury.

New Jersey will try to get back in the win column tonight on the road

Devils forwards Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier celebrate with teammates after scoring a goal.
The Devils are 22-18-2 so far and sixth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Hurricanes on Sunday. New Jersey is 4-5-1 in their last ten games, 11-10-0 on the road and 4-6-2 in divisional games.
Last game could've been a statement game against the division's top team. Even though the Devils are in sixth, they are only two games out of second and four games out of first with plenty of games to play. This is still anyone's division.
New Jersey has had their struggles on offense this year. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals scored per game. The Devils rank fifth in the league for shots on goal per game, but are dead last in shooting percentage, which is obviously a problem.
On defense, they rank in the bottom of the league in shots on goal allowed and penalty kill. Their goaltending has been ok, ranking thirteenth in goals allowed per game. The Islanders are crafty on offense, so the defense will need to be ready.
Tonight, goalie Jacob Markstrom is expected to start. He is 10-9-1 this season with a 3.20 GAA and a .888 safe percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Devils vs. Islanders picks.

I honestly am a little surprised the Islanders are underdogs, but I'll take the even money. This team has looked great lately and has shown resilience in their comebacks. I think they can totally compete and handle the Devils tonight at home.
Markstrom has been a bit leaky this season and it's a good time for the Islanders to take advantage of it. He lost both games this season facing the Islanders and I think the Isles have his number. This is a great spot for New York to ride the momentum of last game and get a win.
Sorokin didn't play last game but did in the one before and got absolutely peppered. I'm going to take him to record over his saves line, which should be around 27 saves. He saw well over 30 shots last game, and I think we see the same again.
I also kind of lean with the under here. The other two matches went under, and I think we see a lot of the same again. Both goaltenders should keep the score down like the previous two games vs. two up and down offenses.
