There is a fat slate for today and we love a god rivalry. The New Jersey Devils will take on the New York Islanders tonight at UBS Arena. These two teams last played at the beginning of November and the Islanders won 3-2 in overtime.
New Jersey is 20-15-1 this season and fifth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Sabres on Sunday. The Devils are 4-6-0 in their last ten games and 10-8-0 on the road.
This team had a hot start to the season but has since cooled down. Their offense has definitely not played the best, ranking in the bottom of the league for goals scored per game and shooting percentage. New Jersey has a solid power play that ranks twelfth in the league.
It doesn't get much better of defense. They rank in the bottom of the league for shots on goal allowed and penalty kill. The Devils rank fourteenth in goals allowed while committing around four penalties per game.
Goalie Jacob Markstrom is expected to get the start tonight. He is 9-7-1 this season with a 3.40 GAA and a .881 save percentage. The Islanders will look to take advantage of Markstrom's GAA.

New York looks to snap three-game losing streak at home tonight

Islanders forward Mat Barzal takes a shot on the Devils net on a breakaway opportunity,
The Islanders are 19-13-4 this year and are fourth in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a three-game losing streak after Saturdays shootout loss to the Sabres. New York is 6-3-1 in their last ten games and 10-7-2 at home.
After a slow start, the Islanders have come around. They're playing decent hockey lately and need to break this losing streak. At home vs. a division rival and the day before break is a perfect bounce back for them. To go into the break off a win would be a great boost for the boys.
This year, the Islanders are shooting more than normal but still struggle to find the back of the net. They rank twenty third in goals scored and eleventh in shots on goal per game. Per usual, their power play is one of the worst in the league as well as their shooting percentage.
On defense they've been holding their own. They rank eighth best in goals allowed and twelfth in penalty kill. New York is still allowed a lot of shots per game, but the goaltending has been solid.
In net, we will see David Rittich tonight. He is 7-3-2 this season with a 2.53 GAA and a .908 save percentage. Rittich has been a great backup to Sorokin. Let's check out the odds and get into the Devils vs. Islanders picks.

This should be a hard fought, close game. Both teams need a win and will come out firing. I do like the Islanders in the bounce back spot tonight at home in a game they should probably lose. They are good at losing games they should win and winning games they should lose.
Markstrom hasn't been the most solid this year. The Islanders managed to beat him last game and were completely out played. They have improved since the last matchup and are going to be a handful for New Jersey.
The Islanders will still be without Bo Horvat, who is looking to make his return on Saturday. I like Matthew Schaefer to help step up on offense and get 3 or more shots on goal for even money. We're getting good value for a play that smacked last game.
I also like Rittich to record 25 or more saved for -120. The Devils absolutely peppered Sorokin last game, and this is Jack Hughes' second game back from injury. New Jersey will put up well over 30 shots tonight.
