It's one of the tightest races ever in the East this season. The Washington Capitals will play the Philadelphia Flyers, both out of the Metro Division. These two team last met about two weeks ago and the Capitals won 3-1.
Washington is 32-26-7 this season and fifth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a win over the Flames 7-3 on Monday. The Capitals are 6-4-0 in their last ten games, 12-15-4 on the road and 12-4-2 in division matchups.
That divisional record is killer and definitely scary for the Flyers. Washington currently sits five points out of the second wild card spot with three teams in front of them. They are six points out of the third spot in the Metro with two teams in front of them.
Their offense hasn't been spectacular this season, but it's getting the job done. They rank in the middle of the league for goals scored and eighth for shots on goal per game. The Capitals power play is terrible though, ranking in the bottom of the league.
On defense, things are a bit better. They rank ninth in goals allowed and eighteenth for shots on goal allowed per game. Goaltender Logan Thompson is expected to get the start. He is 22-18-4 this season with a 2.39 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

Philadelphia needs to make serious playoff push if they want in

Flyers forward Trevor Zegras goes to make a move on Capitals defenseman Rasmus Sandin.
The Flyers are 29-23-11 this year and sixth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Rangers on Monday. Philly is 5-3-2 in their last ten games, 14-11-7 at home and 8-7-4 in divisional games.
It's getting tough for the Flyers to make the playoffs. They're going to need to go on a massive run while banking on other teams' downfall. Crazier things have happened, but I personally don't see it. The East has been good this season.
Their offense is terrible on paper. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Philly has the third worst power play in the league as well.
They are a bit better on defense. The Flyers are eighteenth for shots on goal allowed but are fourth best in shots on goal allowed. They commit five penalties per game and only kill off 78% of them.
In net, we're expected to see David Vladar tonight. He is 20-11-6 this season with a 2.41 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Capitals vs. Flyer picks.

I'm going with the road team here. Granted, Philly isn't just going to lay down, but Washington has way more to play for. They also can't afford to lose with how close they are to getting in the playoffs. The Capitals also have been so good at divisional games this season.
It's that time of year where every shift matters. I think the Capitals out play the Flyers on both ends of the puck. Philly already doesn't shoot much, and I also think the Capitals get pucks on net despite Philly being good on clamping down shots.
Goaltending is going to be the game changer here. I think Thompson is a much better goaltender in the end and will more than hold it down. If the defense can protect him a bit, the offense will do the rest of the job.
Another play I like is the game total under 5.5 goals. Decent defenses on top of slow offenses should produce a low score. It's probably going to be a sweat, so only sprinkle this one.
