Golden Knights vs Oilers NHL Predictions & Picks (11/6)
Tonight’s matchup is the first 2024-25 meeting between these Pacific Division rivals. The Golden Knights currently occupy the division’s No. 2 spot with 17 points while the Oilers’ 13 points are good enough for fifth place.
When it comes to momentum, the edge goes to the Golden Knights. Bruce Cassidy’s club has won five of its last six games, including Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win against the Utah Hockey Club that was led by Noah Hanifin’s three-point effort.
After building up some momentum, the Oilers were brought back down to earth with a 3-0 shutout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Monday. Edmonton couldn’t get anything past New Jersey goaltender Jake Allen, who stopped all 31 of the shots sent his way.
The Oilers now return to Rogers Place, where they’re only 2-4-1 to begin the new season. The good news for the hosts is that the Golden Knights are winless through their first four away games. In fact, Vegas is 0-6 SU on the road dating back to the 2023-24 campaign.
Additionally, the Golden Knights are 1-3 SU on their last four trips to Rogers Place, which is a stretch that includes two multi-goal losses.
The Golden Knights haven’t had much recent success on the road, let alone at Rogers Place.
One thing that can’t be argued is that the Golden Knights’ offense is better than that of the Oilers. While Vegas is averaging 4.50 goals per game (2nd), Edmonton is only putting up 2.38 G/PG (30th). The offensive gap becomes even wider due to the Golden Knights boasting a 32.3% power-play percentage (3rd) while the Oilers are converting on just 14.7% of their opportunities (27th).
And while Vegas’ penalty kill isn’t anything special (73.9%, 23rd), it’s nowhere near as bad as the Oilers’ unit (60.0%, 32nd).
If the Oilers want to stand tall at home tonight, goaltender Stuart Skinner must be better. Although he stopped 29-of-31 shots in a 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Sunday, it’s worth noting that Skinner only has a .881 save percentage and 3.31 goals-against average through eight starts.
On the flip side, it isn’t as if Golden Knights G Adin Hill has been consistent this season. On one hand, the 28-year-old has won each of his last three starts. On the other hand, Hill has only posted a plus-.900 SV% in one of his first seven starts to begin the season.
The Golden Knights need G Adin Hill to play more reliably between the pipes.
With the odds being as close as they are, I’m predicting a Golden Knights victory tonight. The Oilers are one of the NHL’s worst defensive teams this season and they could be in serious trouble if they let the Golden Knights get on the power play. If Vegas can capitalize on those opportunities, we could have a lopsided affair on our hands.
Considering that you could argue that the Oilers should be underdogs tonight, I love the idea of the Golden Knights being available at +102 moneyline odds.

Best Golden Knights vs Oilers NHL Player Prop (11/6)
It’s an absolute no-brainer to go with Mark Stone to record 1+ assists (+100) for the best Golden Knights vs. Oilers NHL player prop bet of the night.
Stone is currently playing at an MVP-like pace to begin the 2024-25 season. The Golden Knights captain has racked up 15 assists in 12 games, putting him on pace for the best total of his career (103). He’s registered at least one assist in 10 of his first dozen appearances thus far, which includes a 3-1 record in four away outings.
With 18 assists in his last 23 games against Pacific Division clubs, Stone is on track for another strong playmaking performance.
