The NHL’s Hart Trophy is awarded to the league’s most valuable player to their team. It’s often awarded to the top point producer in the league, as this goes hand in hand with the individual impact they make on their team, but this isn’t always the case. Just look at last season when Nathan MacKinnon won the award despite being 2nd in scoring. However, this award is much sharper to play a bit safe, so in this article I’ll discuss one bet to go heavy on and two longshots to sprinkle. Let’s explore three intriguing Hart Trophy NHL best bets for the upcoming 2024-2025 campaign.
Remember, these are just a few options. Injuries can obviously effect a player’s performance and it’s always wise to have some backups you are ready to bounce on in case some of the leagues stars go down for a significant amount of time. So without further ado, let’s breakdown some of the best NHL future bets.
Top Betting NHL Bets Rundown – Hart Trophy Awards
Connor McDavid (+160): The best player in the world needs to be in this conversation. Getting him at +160 feels like decent value and his odds will only go down from here. Make sure to read the full breakdown on a sneaky hedge in case he misses a significant amount of time.
Auston Matthews (+1100): Matthews has won it before. And he nearly had a historic season last year scoring 69 goals. If he breaks 70 while propping the Maple Leafs up he could be the league MVP.
Jack Hughes (+1100): Hughes is going to need to stay healthy this year. But he has shown he has game breaking ability. If he can be near the top of the scoring race while bringing his New Jersey Devils back to the playoffs he could be a great long shot NHL future best bet.

NHL Hart Futures Bet Prediction: Connor McDavid (+160)
This is a bet worth placing every season while Connor McDavid is playing at his top caliber. He is the best player in the world, and you could make an argument that he is a top 5 player to ever play the game. He has recorded over 100 points in every season of his career but his rookie year, which he was injured for most of and the COVID shortened season. Last season he propped his team on his back to bring the Edmonton Oilers from the 2nd to worst record in the NHL to the playoffs and the Stanley Cup Finals. This price will only get worse for McDavid, so right now is the best time to buy his Hart Trophy future best bet.
- Dominant Offensive Force: McDavid consistently produces at an otherworldly level, racking up points at a pace that’s unmatched by any other player in the league.
- Proven Track Record: He’s already won multiple Hart Trophies (3), demonstrating his ability to perform at an MVP level consistently.
- Team Success: While individual performance is crucial, team success often influences Hart Trophy voting. The Oilers have shown improvement in recent years, which can boost McDavid’s chances.
- The Hedge: And in case you want to hedge McDavid in case of injury his teammate Leon Draisaitl has tons of value. Draisaitl helps make up one of the best 1-2 punches in the league. If McDavid goes down for significant amounts of time and Draisaitl is able to bring the Oilers to the playoffs while being a top scorer it could make for an incredible MVP narrative. You can bet on his Hart Trophy win for +2,000

More NHL Futures Best Bets: Auston Matthews (+1,100)
Auston Matthews nearly did something that hasn’t been done in the NHL since the early 1990’s, hit 70 goals in one season. He ended the season at 69 goals and you know he will be motivated to reach the milestone. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some significant changes this offseason, bolstering their defense and hiring a new head coach. If Matthews can hit 70 goals while making the Leafs one of the best teams in the league it could be enough for him to win the Hart, making this a tasty NHL futures best bet.
- Unparalleled Goal-Scoring: Matthews has consistently demonstrated an elite ability to find the back of the net, making him a unique and valuable asset to any team. A historic 70 goal season could be enough for him to win the award.
- Team Success: The Toronto Maple Leafs have been a consistent playoff contender, and Matthews’ contributions have been instrumental in their success. But if the Leafs can become one of the top teams this regular season with a new head coach and revamped blue line, it may illustrate just how valuable Matthews is.
- Value Bet: While it is absoulely smarter to take McDavid or even MacKinnon (+500) to win the Hart, I’m looking to hedge my McDavid bet with upside in value. Matthews was in the conversation last year as he neared his goal milestone, and since McDavid has won the award three times and will win it many more in his career, the league may not mind awarding a different player the trophy when there is reason to do so.

NHL Best Futures Prediction: Jack Hughes (+1,100)
In a similar vein to Matthews, this is another nice value bet. MacKinnon winning the award last season gives me pause for a repeat. And McDavid is the perfect way to make some money with a full unit bet. But at +1,100 Hughes can pay out big, even if you just sprinkle an amount. He has struggled to stay healthy, but if he does he could be in the scoring title race. Elevating the New Jersey Devils back to the playoffs will support his narrative. They are one of the youngest and most exciting teams in the league.
- Young and Improving: At a relatively young age, Hughes continues to develop and has the potential to reach even higher levels. Two seasons ago Hughes hit 99 points. He is only 23 years old and could take another huge step in his production.
- Playmaking Ability: His playmaking skills are elite, and he’s capable of generating scoring chances for himself and his teammates. Speaking of those teammates, he is surrounded by stars like Bratt, Hiscier, Meier and Hamilton.
- Team Success: The New Jersey Devils have become a formidable force, and Hughes is a key contributor to their success. But last year they took a step back and missed the playoffs. They added veteran goaltender Markstrom to help the cause and look like one of the most complete teams in the league. A President Trophy season plus a 100+ point season from Hughes could lead him to Hart glory.
