For the second time in eight weeks, the AFC West rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos will highlight Sunday's late-afternoon slate of NFL action.

The Chiefs cruised in their first meeting in Week 1 with a 31-10 beatdown, thanks in large part to Kenneth Walker, who rushed 23 times for 173 yards and a touchdown in his Kansas City debut.

Will Walker's efforts translate to the hostile environment of the Rocky Mountains against the Bronco faithful, or will we get a bounce-back performance from Bo Nix and company?

Let's dive into my preview and favorite props for this Chiefs vs. Broncos Week 8 matchup.

Chiefs vs. Broncos Week 8 Preview

Certainly, one would think the Denver Broncos could put forth a better showing than they did in their Week 1 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Giving up 7.5 yards per carry to Walker, and 5.8 to the Chiefs as a whole is quite the embarrassing stat line. And while Denver has won five of its six games since that defeat, the victories have been anything but pretty.

The run defense has continued to struggle, ranking 27th in EPA per rush attempt while allowing 4.6 yards per carry.

Even more concerning is the lack of progress from their third-year starting quarterback, Bo Nix. Sure, the Broncos continue to find ways to win, but the formula has been ugly and seems increasingly unsustainable given Nix's performances.

He's completing just 59% of his throws, has surpassed 222 passing yards just once and, among 34 qualified quarterbacks with a minimum of 128 plays, ranks 33rd in air yards (6.2), 31st in success rate, 31st in completion percentage over expected (CPOE) and 27th in EPA per play.

Meanwhile, on the other sideline, Patrick Mahomes has guided his squad to a 5-1 record while completing 65% of his throws and totaling 1,474 passing yards.

Mahomes hasn't been prolific, sitting 15th in EPA per play, 17th in success rate, 19th in CPOE and 32nd in air yards (6.3), but he hasn't necessarily needed to be.

That's because of the elusiveness and power Kenneth Walker has brought to the backfield. His success on the ground has opened up a bevy of options offensively, allowing Kansas City to take some of the strain off Mahomes' shoulders.

Will that strain remain alleviated in the Mile High City, though? For all their struggles against the run, the Broncos have been far more impressive against the pass, ranking fourth in both dropback EPA and success rate.

If the Broncos can contain Walker, and that's a big "if," the Chiefs could find themselves in a much tougher offensive battle than they faced in Week 1.

At the same time, we shouldn't expect big things out of Nix and his offense. His struggles aren't likely to disappear against a Chiefs defense that sits fifth in both overall EPA per play and success rate allowed.

There's a reason this total is as low as it is, and I certainly wouldn't be eager to back the over.

Chiefs vs. Broncos Props

Evan Engram

With the expectation of this being a lower-scoring affair, we should expect touchdowns to come at a premium.

However, I do foresee both kickers being utilized frequently, though I trust one team's kicking situation more than the other's.

I'm targeting Will Lutz and betting him to make at least two field goals in this game.

I despise this Broncos offense with Bo Nix under center, but I do believe they'll be able to move the ball into field goal range numerous times. Finishing those drives with touchdowns? That's where I have my doubts.

Between Nix's struggles and a Kansas City defense allowing opponents to succeed on just 26.7% of their red-zone plays, the second-best mark in the NFL, I have a hard time envisioning Denver consistently punching the ball into the end zone.

Lutz has had a steady foot throughout his 10-year career, and it's always a plus when you get him at home with the high-altitude conditions that benefit kicking distance.

The other prop I have, which somehow has us putting more faith in this Denver offense despite my doubts, revolves around tight end Evan Engram, who I believe is in a strong spot to eclipse 19.5 receiving yards.

Engram has been underwhelming this season, averaging 1.9 receptions on 3.3 targets for a measly 19.4 yards per game, but I'd put more of the blame on Nix's incompetence than Engram's own play.

The good news is that the Chiefs present a very favorable matchup for Engram. Kansas City is allowing opposing tight ends 7.3 catches for over 70 yards per game.

In fact, Engram's best performance of the season came against Kansas City back in Week 1, when he hauled in four of five targets for 43 yards and a touchdown.

I expect similar success the second time around and am eager to take advantage of such a low prop line.
