It has been seven decades since the Detroit Lions won five straight games against the Green Bay Packers. The chance to end that drought will be there in Thursday's Thanksgiving Day opener, as well as the opportunity to move closer to the franchise's first division title in 30 years.

While they missed out on the chance to potentially be tied for the best record in the NFC, due to the Philadelphia Eagles rallying to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, things continue to come up roses for the Lions (8-2).

With seven games left, they have a three-game lead over the Minnesota Vikings (6-5) in the loss column, and the #1 seed in the NFC is still very much in play, with the Eagles (9-1) facing some tough games in the weeks ahead.

Things aren't quite as rosy for the Packers (4-6), but Green Bay remains in the NFC playoff picture. With a win on Thursday, they would move within a game of the idle Vikings (6-5), who currently occupy the seventh seed in the NFC.

Jordan Love Packers

On Sunday, a late touchdown toss from Jordan Love to Romeo Doubs lifted Green Bay to a 23-20 home win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Love completed 27 of 40 passes for a career-high 322 yards and had two touchdown tosses, making a nice bounce back from not having his best outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10.

But to get that big win, the Pack will have to do what they have done only once thus far this season and win on the road. Oddsmakers certainly don't think much of Green Bay's chances to do so, as they are an underdog by more than a touchdown.

Packers Unlikely to End Skid Against Lions

David Montgomery Detroit Lions

In Week 4, Detroit went into Green Bay and left Lambeau Field with a 34-20 win. The Lions jumped out to a 27-3 lead at halftime, but the Packers pulled within 27-17 early in the fourth. But that would be as far as their rally would go, as the visitors wrapped up the win with a David Montgomery touchdown run with six minutes left.

If they can win at home for the fifth time in six games this season, the Lions will sweep the Packers in consecutive seasons for the first time since doing so in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, and they would have their longest win streak against Green Bay since an 11-game run from 1949 to 1954.

Based on what we have seen from both teams this season, that outcome is highly likely. While Detroit is 4-1 SU and 3-2-0 ATS at home, Green Bay is just 1-4 SU and 2-3-0 ATS on the road, with their lone SU win all the way back in Week 1 at Chicago.

Additionally, the Lions are 7-0 SU and 6-1-0 ATS against teams that currently have a losing record. Until their wild comeback win over the Bears this past Sunday, Detroit was perfect both SU and ATS against such teams.

Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions Prediction and Best Bets

Prediction: Lions to win

Best Bets: Lions -7.5 (-105 at Bovada) & Lions team total over 27.5 points (-120 at Bovada)

The Packers have yet to win consecutive games this season, and part of that has to do with Love being unable to get on a good run. Only once thus far has he gone consecutive games without throwing an interception, and he has yet to have a completion percentage of 60% or better in consecutive games.

Between that, the way the trends are pointing, and the overall body of work of each team this season, there are more than enough reasons to make the Lions the pick here.
