NFL Preseason Picks and Predictions (8/9): Saturday’s Football Slate

The NFL has given us a solid eight preseason games to keep us entertained on Saturday, so let's get right in to our favorite picks on the slate. While we aren't going to tackle every matchup, here's some insight into the three that will be televised on the NFL Network.

New York Giants vs. Buffalo Bills NFL Picks

Best Bet: Bills -3 (-107) BetOnline

Sure, we're not going to see Josh Allen, but the Bills defense is deep and it will show in this game. While we probably won't see Russell Wilson either, the other three QBs in New York should all take a few snaps, will Jaxson Dart likely taking a bulk of the work load.

Regardless, Brian Daboll is just 1-8 ATS in the preseason as a head coach, and as deep as you want to go on the depth chart, the Bills have the edge. Plus, I'm on the Giants Win Total Under this season, so they might as well start losing early. The Bills are at home, they want to entertain the fans, and Mike White and Shane Buechele are fighting to sit on the end of the bench. Both are capable of putting some points on the board.

This line has been all over the place, but ultimately I just trust the better team on their home turf, even in the preseason.

Houston Texans vs. Minnesota Vikings NFL Picks

Best Bet: HOU/MIN Under 37.5 (-105) BetOnline

Look, unders have not been very profitable in the preseason so far, but I love both of these defenses.

Even if we don't see starters, the depth will show, and you have two great defensive minds in Texans HC DeMeco Ryans and Vikings DC Brian Flores. Viking fans will get a look at JJ McCarthy, for a few drives, and then the keys will be handed over to Sam Howell, Brett Rypien and Max Brosmer.

For Minnesota's sake, I really hope McCarthy works out for them this year or else they'll be making phone calls before the deadline.

On the Texans' side of things, Davis Mills has more than proven himself as a worthy NFL QB when playing against second and third stringers. But things might be sloppy this early in the preseason, so I'll back the defenses to come to play.

New York Jets vs. Green Bay Packers NFL Picks

Best Bet: NYJ/GB 1H Over 19.5 (-110) BetOnline

Get in, get out, and hope for some points early. New Jets HC Aaron Glenn is changing the culture in New York and will play his starters for a bit on Saturday. That means we will get to see Justin Fields reunited with Garrett Wilson in a professional game. That duo will certainly look to connect early.

For the Packers, Matt LaFleur has hinted at starters seeing the field as well, but for how long, nobody knows. Regardless, the Packers will want to see how their new wide receiving corps does, so look for Jordan Love to air it out early, and target rookie Matthew Golden.

Three touchdowns is all we are asking for, and although Green Bay has arguably a top five defense in the NFL, I'm not planning on the starters staying out there very long in this first preseason matchup.
