Dolphins vs Chiefs Wild Card Prediction and Best Bets: Will Miami’s Long Wait for a Playoff Win Continue?

On Sunday night, the Miami Dolphins were a quarter away from an AFC East title and the #2 seed in the AFC. Then everything fell apart, and the result is a road trip to Kansas City for a Saturday night Super Wild Card Weekend showdown with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs (8:00 pm ET, Peacock).
The Dolphins were on the cusp of winning their first division title since 2008, but they couldn’t close out the Buffalo Bills, who rallied to claim their fourth consecutive AFC East title and the #2 seed.
So, instead of being able to play at Hard Rock Stadium this weekend, Tyreek Hill will be making his return to Arrowhead Stadium, as his sixth-seeded Dolphins will try to eliminate the third-seeded Chiefs for their first playoff win since December 30, 2000.
This season has been anything but smooth sailing for the Chiefs, who started 6-1 but went 5-5 over their last ten regular season games. Still, they won their eighth straight AFC West title, and their run of five consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances means that they shouldn’t be written off just yet.

Prediction: Chiefs to win
When the two teams met in Germany in November, a defensive touchdown late in the first half and a stop on Miami’s final drive of the game were the difference as Kansas City held on to win after leading 21-0 at halftime.
What’s in store for the rematch? If the two quarterbacks and offenses do what they are capable of offensively, we could see a lot of points in this game.
But results have been too inconsistent for both teams to make the over worth a significant outlay.
The Chiefs averaged only 21.8 PPG this season, which ranked 15th in the NFL, and they hit the 30-point mark just three times.
On the other side, the Dolphins hit the 30-point mark eight times this season, but they did so only four times in their final 11 games after doing so four times in their first six games.
If there is one big bright spot for the Chiefs in what can be considered a down year, it’s the performance of their defense.
A unit that has been maligned in the past has been one of the league’s best this season, ranking 2nd in scoring defense (17.3 PPG), fewest yards allowed per game (289.8 YPG), and sacks (57).
Ultimately, I think defense will prove to be decisive. Both offenses have had a penchant for giveaways, and there’s a good chance we’ll see a few on Saturday.
But in the end, it’s hard to bet against the team that has been there, done that, and gotten a few t-shirts instead of the team that is still learning how to embrace prosperity.
Dolphins vs Chiefs Best Bets: Chiefs -4.5 & Dolphins/Chiefs under 43.5
