Kansas City Chiefs

Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs will head out west this week to face the defending Super Bowl Champions; the Seattle Seahawks. They will once again be without their top WR, Rashee Rice, as he deals with a knee injury.

Last week the Chiefs didn't really need him. Kansas City beat the Chargers 22-6, Kenneth Walker ran all over this Chargers font and the pass game was just a nice addition to the Chiefs' offense. I'd imagine this week goes a little bit different.

The Seahawks come into this game off back to back losses and in desperate need of a win. The team's 14th in points scored, 5th in points allowed and 1st in pass yards allowed.

The Chiefs look to stay undefeated, while the Seahawks look to break the losing streak. This one's going to be good.

Potential Target(s)

Travis Kelce is the first name that comes to mind. It's National TEs Week and with Rice out of the lineup, his target share should only go up. Kelce caught 4 of his 5 targets last week for 56 yards and no touchdowns. Both of the Chiefs touchdowns came via K9 on the ground and like I said; the Chiefs didn't need to pass the ball.

The problem is this Seattle defense. The unit ranks 1st in pass yards allowed, 10th in rush yards allowed, 1st in opponent yards per play and 3rd in pressure rate. The team generates a ton of pressure, they make opposing QBs uncomfortable and it's lead to a ton of 3rd and long situations for opposing offenses.

The Seahawks are 3rd in opponent 3rd down conversion rate, 3rd in opponent 1st downs per game and it's all because of the pressure the generate. With all that being said, as good as they've bene at limiting opposing offenses; they struggle in the redzone.

Seattle ranks 30th in opponent redzone efficiency, allowing opponents to convert 79% of their redzone drives into touchdowns. They give up the 2nd fewest redzone attempts per game, but once opposing offenses get in scoring distance; it usually ends up in a touchdown.

That's why I'd be more intrigued by a few touchdown props on the Kansas City side. Rice saw a 29% target share in the redzone over the last two seasons and a 33% 1st read target share. That's a big chunk of volume up for grabs and my guts telling me it's probably Travis Kelce that gets into the endzone.

The Hawks giving up the fewest explosive pass plays in the league, so if they're going to score it'll be from in close.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers can't catch a break. The Niners lost Ricky Pearsall before the season started, they lost Deebo Samuel last week and now Mike Evans is out with achilles tendonitis. The receiving room couldn't be more depleted in the Bay, but Brock Purdy still finds a way.

Purdy's averaging 243.3 pass yards per game, he's thrown 14 touchdowns, 3 interceptions and he's got a passer rating of 118.2. The team is a perfect 6-0, he's thrown touchdowns to 6 different receivers and none of them are named Christian McCaffrey.

Purdy is spreading the ball around and while Mike Evans will always be missed; Purdy's been so good it's next man up. The Niners will travel to Atlanta this week for a matchup with Michael Penix Jr. and the Falcons.

The Falcons rank 28th in pass yards allowed, 23rd in points allowed and 21st in opponent redzone efficiency. Atlanta's given up 10 touchdowns through the air this year, 4 to TEs and 4 to opposing WRs.

NFL Handicapping 101

Potential Target(s)

Again, it's National TEs Week and we've got one of the founders of Tight End University playing in one of the first games of the day. With no Mike Evans, no Deebo and just a variety of different WR3s left, George Kittle feels like the obvious choice.

Kittle caught 5 of his 8 targets last week for 69 yards and a touchdown. In the limited snaps this season without Mike Evans, Kittle's target share jumps. He's seeing a 16.3% target share with Mike on the field, but 33.3% with him off the field.

The difference is even more stark in the redzone. Kittle's target share goes form 25% with Mike on the field, but 41.7% with him off the field. The Falcons have given up 4 touchdown to opposing TEs this year and Kittle had a huge game last time he was here in Atlanta. He caught 8 of 10 targets for 83 yards and no touchdown.

We can't forget about McCaffrey. Even though he hasn't be utilized as heavily as last year; with Mike off the field his target share also jumps. He's seeing a 14% target share with Mike on the field, but 33.3% when he's on the sideline.

The Falcons have given up 5 touchdown to opposing RBs and have allowed the 3rd most receptions to the position.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Baker Mayfield

Last week I talked about the fact that Caleb Williams back under center probably meant big things for his pass catchers. The Bears responded with big days for both Colston Loveland and Luther Burder. Loveland would get into the endzone with 6 catchers for 67 yards and Burden would catch all 8 of his targets for 95 yards.

This week we've got a similar situation in Tampa Bay. Baker Mayfield looks to be tracking to play on Sunday and he gets the chance to play the team that waived him back in 2022. Since then, Baker's played the Panthers 6 times. He's won 5 of the 6 matchups.

Mayfield's averaging 213.5 pass yards per game, he's got 9 touchdowns, 6 interceptions and a passer rating of 93.6. His first loss came last year, but outside of that he's dominated. This Panthers team is a lot different, they score points and the Buccs will need to do the same to keep up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a big week from Baker, especially with his team in real need of a win this week.
