Last year’s Heisman Trophy was won by LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who exceeded all expectations for the Tigers. This year’s No. 2 pick at the 2024 NFL Draft threw for 3,812 passing yards with 40 touchdowns across 12 games while adding another 1,134 yards and 10 TDs on 135 carries.
So, who’ll follow in Daniels’ footsteps?

As the 2024 NCAAF season looms, this year’s Heisman Trophy picture is shaping up to be a three-horse race.
Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel opens the year as BetOnline’s +500 favorite to win the hardware. The Ducks newcomer spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Oklahoma, throwing for over 6,800 passing yards with 55 touchdowns across 12 starts. He was named first-team All-Big 12 as he led the Sooners to a 10-3 record before ultimately losing to Arizona at the Alamo Bowl. Gabriel now joins an Oregon team that has the second-best odds (+190) to win the Big Ten Championship in the program’s conference debut.
Senior quarterback Carson Beck has the second-best odds (+850) as he enters his fifth season with the Bulldogs. The Georgia signal-caller led the SEC in passing attempts (417), completions (302), and yards (3,941) last season while throwing out a personal-best 24 touchdowns. Whether he has another gear in store remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe rounds out the top three at +1200 odds. The junior signal-caller was solid in his first season under center last year, tallying 2,834 passing yards with 23 TDs to six INTs in 13 games. Even though those aren’t the most eye-popping numbers, they were good enough to earn Milroe a second-team All-SEC nod.

2024 Heisman Trophy Prediction & Best Bet
Predicting awards in August can be difficult — especially when it comes to the Heisman Trophy. While favorites have taken home the award in the past, we’ve also seen our fair share of surprise victors throughout history.
Having said that, I’m going with Texas’ Quinn Ewers at +1200 odds.
As Texas joins the SEC, Ewers brings a plethora of experience to the table. The junior QB has racked up over 5,600 passing yards with 37 TDs over the last two seasons, leading Texas to a combined 20-7 record along the way. Even though the program ultimately ended up falling to Washington in the Sugar Bowl, the Longhorns still finished the year as the No. 3 team in the nation, which wouldn’t have been possible without their gunslinger.
Even though he lost some of his wideouts this offseason, Ewers will be surrounded by another star-studded cast this season. Names like Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, and Silas Bolden are ready to do some damage in the SEC, and it wouldn’t be shocking if Ewers — who threw for a career-high 3,479 passing yards last year — brings out the best in them.
Ewers also has a great opportunity to separate himself from the pack early on this season. Texas has meetings with No. 9 Michigan, No. 16 Oklahoma, and No. 1 Georgia between the start of the year and Oct. 19. If Ewers shows off and potentially leads the Longhorns to victory in any combination of those games, his Heisman Trophy odds could skyrocket.
Again, although it’s early, the 2024 NCAAF season is shaping up to be a massive one for Ewers.
