NCAA Football Expert Insights: LSU vs Ole Miss

Trindiad Chambliss and Ole Miss look to beat their former coach

Such a fascinating angle of this game to watch is going to be the play of Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss. A lot of people forget that Austin Simmons was the QB for Ole Miss last year to start the season. He got hurt, Chambliss took over and the rest was history. How will Chambliss perform though going up against the guy who coached him so closely for a year? The guy who knows all his strengths and weaknesses. It'll be a fun chess match to watch.

On the other side of the ball, you have Lane Kiffin and his LSU offense going up against Pete Golding and his Ole Miss defense. Pete knows Lane's offense as well as anyone, but you would imagine Lane has some tricks up his sleeve in this one.

Another wrinkle added to this showdown was the fact that on Wednesday, LSU listed their starting QB, Sam Leavitt as doubtful to play in the game. He didn't appear injured after LSU's win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday. So the big question everyone is asking – Is this injury legit or is it gamesmanship? The fact Lane Kiffin is involved I think have a lot of people feeling it's the ladder.

Best Bet: LSU ML (-138) BetOnline

LSU was one of the most fascinating teams coming into the season. The big splash of hiring Kiffin and all the talent he got in the transfer portal to follow. They call him the "portal king" for a reason and through 2 games LSU has looked the part outscoring their opponents 96-24. Saturday will be the ultimate test though. Not just because they have to play a really good team on the road, but obviously all the outside noise they have to deal with as well.

Trinidad Chambliss is one of the best QB's in the country. Anytime you have a player as good as that you can win any game and that's always the fear of fading a guy like that. The difference is the defenses. Ole Miss just isn't as deep as they were on defense last year and their secondary is an issue. Louisville torched them in the 2nd half of their season opening game. If Louisville can hit explosive plays and score some points then LSU should be able to as well.

I'm going to assume LSU QB, Sam Leavitt is playing. I'm not buying that he is doubtful and like most I think Kiffin might be playing some mind games. The environment inside Vaught Hemingway Stadium is going to be second to none on Saturday. You are going to feel it watching from your couch on TV. Crowds absolutely can win you games, but the best way to neutralize that is having a really good team. That's what LSU has and I expect them to take care of business. LSU 27- Ole Miss 20.
