Virginia Tech at Maryland NCAA Football Picks

Best Bet: Virginia Tech -2.5 (-123) BetOnline

For those that don't know the backstory, James Franklin once upon a time ago was a coach at the University of Maryland. He was told he was going to be the Head Coach in waiting and then was paid 1 million dollars to go away. Franklin goes to Vandy, the Terps hire Randy Etzel and I think we all know how that worked out.

These games vs Maryland are always personal for Franklin. If the Hokies head coach has a chance to run up the score he is going to do it. His Penn State team a few years ago beat Maryland, 59-0. This will be his first test as Hokies head coach and I expect him to have his guys ready.

Maryland has gotten off to another good start this season like they seemingly always do. In any kind of big game though when the pressure is on the Terps that's when they usually underdeliver. I think Virginia Tech is the better team and I trust Franklin way more in this type of game than I trust Mike Locksley.

 

Alabama vs Florida State NCAA Football Picks

 

Best Bet: Alabama -19 (-115) (BetOnline)

I normally don't love laying big numbers, but I think this is a good spot to do it. Florida State is awful, folks. AWFUL. They struggled against New Mexico State in Week 0 and then in Week 1 won the turnover battle 4-0 against SMU and still couldn't win the game at home. Their QB Ashton Daniels is a good athlete, but doesn't scare you as a passer and their defensive is nowhere near as dominant as what it was a few years ago. There is a clear talent gap in this matchup.

Bama was trailing Kentucky 17-13 at halftime last week. They were committing penalties and turning the ball over. In the 2nd half they started running the football and stopped making mistakes. Playing a clean 2nd half they outscored Kentucky 32-0 and won 45-17. If they can do that on the road to an SEC team imagine what they can do at home to FSU if they just play their game.

Also keep in mind the revenge angle for this game as well. Alabama opened their season in Tallahassee last year and lost as a two touchdown favorite. They won't be taking the Seminoles lightly and will love to avenge that loss from last year. Tide should roll on Saturday afternoon.

UTEP vs Michigan NCAA Football Picks

Best Bet: UTEP +35.5 (-115) BetOnline

These bets are always the stressful ones. You know UTEP isn't going to win the game, but you're just hoping they can keep it within the number. 35 is A LOT of points especially for Michigan's offense. That's part of the reason I like this bet – Is Michigan capable of scoring 36+ points? I guess we will see.

Another reason I like this game is the situational spot. Think about the first two weeks for Michigan. The insane finish against Western Michigan where they were granted an extra second out of thin air and then last weeks upset of #11 Oklahoma. It's been as crazy a 2 weeks as a team can have to start the season. Next week they start BIG 10 play and face #18 Iowa at home. Do we really think Michigan is showing up and brining their A-Game against UTEP?

Team's aren't going to go all out every single week, it's just human nature. This game screams to me like 31-7 or 28-10. Get in, get out and keep everyone healthy. Michigan is going to win, but they don't care how much they win by. Kyle Whittingham is a conservative coach and I don't expect him to run up the score. I'll take the Miners to stay within the number.
