The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the ACC meet in the tournament championship tonight in Charlotte as the Duke Blue Devils, who are the top team in the country take on the No. 10 Virginia Cavaliers. Both teams have two games in this conference tourney, and now meet for the second time this season. Earlier in the year, we backed the Cavs to cover the double digit spread at Cameron Indoor Arena and were unsuccessful, as they lost by 24. Could things be different without Caleb Foster or Patrick Ngongba? Let's find out with our expert CBB picks.

#10 Virginia Cavaliers vs. #1 Duke Blue Devils NCAA Basketball Insights

Jon Scheyer and Duke take on the Virginia Cavaliers but are still slightly shorthanded - Duke Virginia Picks

Jon Scheyer and Duke take on the Virginia Cavaliers but are still slightly shorthanded

Virginia only managed to score 51 points when they faced Duke on the road in the regular season. However, Thijs De Ridder had two quick fouls and had to sit for most of the first half, which hurt the Cavaliers on both sides of the ball. Not only was he unable to defend Cameron Boozer, who went for 18 points, nine boards and four assists, but he was only able to put up 16 points in 20 minutes of game time. Assuming he can stay out of foul trouble, the Virginia big could easily contribute 20+ points in this game.

Plus, without Ngongba and Foster, the Blue Devils have been playing with their food. They actually lost the first half to Florida State and almost the entire game, but ended up winning by one after taking the lead with nine minutes left and never looking back. But even last night against Clemson, they were down 16-15 after 10 minutes of play. A slow start tonight could be the equivalent of shooting themselves in the foot, as Virginia has the tools on both sides of the ball to protect an early lead.

I am backing the Cavaliers to hang strong for 20 minutes. We saw Florida State do it for 30, and watched Clemson hang on for about 10 minutes. As I eluded to above, Virginia actually matches up well against the Blue Devils, especially without Foster and Ngongba. All you gotta do is slow down Cameron Boozer and make sure Isaiah Evans doesn't get super hot from deep and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't hate a sprinkle on the first half moneyline as well if you wanted something juicer, but I'll avoid being greedy and just back the +4. Virginia knows (or should know) that they don't want to get into an offensive contest with the Blue Devils. Even without two of their starters, Duke is better on that side of the floor. The Cavaliers will play slow and limit the possessions in this game from the jump, which leads me to think they can keep it within a single score for the first 20 minutes. Please, De Ridder, do not get caught fouling early.
