One of the top mid-major matchups on tonight's college basketball schedule sees Towson visit the College of Charleston in a nationally-televised showdown (7:00 pm ET, CBS Sports Network).

Since back-to-back losses to Hofstra and Drexel, the Cougars (26-3, 14-2 Colonial Athletic Association) have won five straight. Those losses are why the Cougars are on the wrong side of the March Madness bubble despite being tied with #1 Houston for the most wins in Division I.

A win over the Tigers (19-10, 11-5 CAA) won't help them there, but a loss would certainly kill off any remaining at-large hopes.

Will the Cougars Deliver Another Double-Digit Win?

Since their one-point loss at Drexel on February 2, the Cougars have done what they could to keep pace with Hofstra (22-8, 15-2 CAA) and not fall away from the March Madness bubble.

In Charleston's five-game win streak, all five wins have come by at least 13 points.

at Delaware: won 84-67
vs UNC Wilmington: won 93-61
at Hampton: 83-70
vs Northeastern: won 99-63
at Elon: won 88-66

The Cougars covered the spread in four of those games, only failing to do so against Hampton, against whom they were favored by 17.

In addition to scoring 80+ points in five straight games overall, the Cougars have scored 80+ in their last four home games.

So, Towson has a tall task to take on tonight, though they took Charleston to overtime on New Year's Eve in a 76-74 home loss.

In that game, the Cougars led by as many as 16 in the first half and were up by nine with under five minutes left, but the Tigers rallied to force an extra period.

The Tigers enter tonight's game with consecutive double-digit home wins over Delaware (95-72) and North Carolina A&T (87-75), but they have lost three straight road games and are 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS on the road in conference play.

The Cougars may not be able to get the #1 seed in the CAA tournament–Hofstra will wrap that up with a home win over Northeastern on Saturday–or earn an NCAA Tournament berth without winning the conference tourney.

But it won't be for a lack of trying, and I expect them to continue their current hot streak tonight. Towson will put up a good fight, but the Cougars will know that they should have comfortably won the first meeting on the road and will not leave the door open when in that position this time around.
