The College Basketball Crown returns tonight in Sin City with two more quarterfinals matchups. Yesterday, we saw the Baylor Bears and Oklahoma Sooners move on to the CBC Semifinals after beating Colorado and Minnesota. Now we await two more teams to punch their ticket to the next round. In this piece, we will look at the opening matchup at MGM Grand tonight featuring two teams who narrowly missed out on the NCAA Tournament. The Stanford Cardinals of the ACC take on the West Virginia Mountaineers of the Big 12. Who will come out with a win? Let's find out with our expert CBB picks below.

Stanford was just a few wins away from making the NCAA Tournament, but their 20-12 record came up just short of the Big Dance. Now they find themselves in Las Vegas competing in the second ever College Basketball Crown. The Cardinal actually opened up as 1.5 point favorites in this game, but the line has now flipped, as the Mountaineers are the new betting favorite.
In my mind, this is more accurate. Despite the worse record, West Virginia played in the much tougher conference all year long. But does that mean they are battle tested and ready to go for this postseason tournament after having nearly a month off of competing? Let's look at the betting odds and find out.

I wish I snagged West Virginia before the line flipped, but I'll chase the steam in this instance. The Mountaineers are the better basketball team, and they'll prove it to everyone in Sin City tonight. The Cardinal rely on freshman Ebuka Okorie to score 22.8 of their 76 points per game. One man is in charge of 30% of the team's scoring. That is simply not sustainable, no matter how many 30 point games this guy has had all year.
Against a very good defense like the Mountaineers have, scoring is going to be tough to do. We see a total below 140, which is standard for West Virginia games. But regardless, it speaks to how good this team is at defending the hoop. The Mountaineers are inside the top 20 in terms of defensive efficiency, ranking top 45 in opponent eFG% as well as FT Rate defense. They have the tools so keep this game low scoring, giving them a much better shot at winning in my opinion. This team has the capabilities to lock down Okorie, forcing the other Stanford players to step up and score.
But they'll have a hard time doing so against Ross Hodge's defense.
