Nothing beats Big East basketball, nothing. Friday night is going to be a blast as the Seton Hall Pirates take on the Providence Friars with the Big East schedule getting underway. The Pirates are rolling strong, winning four straight, while the Friars are coming off a tough loss to Butler last Saturday. Will Seton Hall be able to keep the hot streak alive, or will the Friar fans be too much to handle? I have thoughts.
Bounce Back City, USA
First of all, bring back The Dunk. I will not write out the new name of the Friars home gym. It will always be The Dunk to me.
Regardless of the name, the Friar faithful always come ready, especially when the Big East schedule rolls around. This place should be a madhouse. I love the Friars on the moneyline in this spot. I was able to snag them at $1.40. Personally, I still endorse anything below -160, but that is a personal preference. If you are not in the juice paying business, take the -2.5.
This matchup feels like the right time for Providence to get back on track after a double overtime loss to Butler last Saturday. Providence has taken on the 130th toughest schedule to kick off the year, while Seton Hall has kind of coasted with the 94th easiest schedule.
Despite being 0-5 against top 100 teams, the Friars have yet to host a top 100 team at The Dunk. Maybe that is exactly what they need to get back on track. Their offense has stayed consistent in those losses and still ranks top 50 overall. They do a great job protecting the basketball, attacking the glass, and making free throws. Defense has been the issue, ranking 258 against top 100 opponents. At home this season, however, they rank top 25 in two point defense and 66th in block percentage. I truly believe a home game is exactly what this squad needs.
Little Too Perfect
Seton Hall does have some solid wins over NC State and Kansas State. However, both of those teams have been underwhelming in my opinion. This will mark the Pirates first Big East matchup of the season and only their second true road game. They have performed well away from their home gym, but it almost feels like they have been too good. This environment is going to be a real test for the Pirates, and I think this is where they trip up a bit to kick off Big East play.
