Portland vs. San Diego Bet
The spot after the spot has arrived, and we are taking San Diego to come out on top in this one. Portland is coming off an upset win over Gonzaga last Wednesday, and they followed that up by beating Seattle on Saturday. Typically, fading a team coming off one of the biggest upset wins in college basketball history is a must bet. However, since that angle would have been extremely public, we waited until tonight. The spot after the spot. My new system play.
The Toreros have dropped three straight, losing to Oregon State in overtime, Saint Mary's, and Loyola Marymount this past Saturday. Haslametrics shows San Diego with a massive edge in away and home court metrics, as well as overall consistency. Haslam ranks Portland as the worst team away from home, while San Diego sits 64th. He also notes, "San Diego appears to be one of college basketball's more consistent units, 76th in the nation in consistency, while Portland, 294th in consistency, has been much more erratic."
At home this season, San Diego ranks 165th in eFG% offense, 80th in three-point percentage offense, and 26th in turnover defense. Their defense is the biggest red flag, as they are 65th worst in eFG% defense. However, the Toreros love to push the pace. They will look to force turnovers and run Portland out of the gym.
As mentioned, Portland has been abysmal on the road. Through ten games away from home, the Pilots are bottom 100 in adjusted offensive efficiency, eFG% offense, and three-point percentage. On the defensive end, they are also bottom 100 in eFG% defense, defensive rebounding, and three-point defense. That will be key for San Diego, which ranks top 110 in three-point rate.
All in all, this sets up as a strong get right spot for San Diego and a letdown spot for Portland. I laid the $1.20 juice last night, and I still endorse the moneyline at anything below -160.
Trust the spot after the spot.
