College basketball gives us a gift tonight as the Civil War tips off in Eugene. Oregon State and Oregon both enter undefeated, both hungry to make an early statement, and both carrying plenty of momentum into one of the most intense rivalries on the West Coast. The Beavers are fresh off a wild comeback win, while the Ducks are searching for their first spread cover of the season after handling South Dakota State, Rice and Hawaii. Styles will clash, tempers will rise, and someone is leaving with their perfect record intact. Let us break down everything that matters before these two collide.

Oregon State vs. Oregon Best Bet
Welcome to the Civil War between the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks. Both Oregon programs enter tonight undefeated, each looking to knock off its instate rival and stay perfect. Oregon, who has yet to cover a spread this season, is coming off a big win over South Dakota State. Meanwhile, Oregon State enters off a massive comeback win against North Texas. Can the Beavers stay perfect in their first road game of the year. Time to dive into this one.
Letdown Incoming…
I have had this game circled since last Wednesday when the Beavers stole a win from North Texas. With 1:19 to play, the Mean Green held a 90% win probability while leading 64 to 60. The Beavers stormed back and won 66 to 64 on free throws with one second remaining.
I fully want to fade the daylights out of the Beavers tonight. I grabbed Oregon at 12.5 on Sunday afternoon and the number has since climbed to 13. I still endorse the Ducks at this number. Oregon will be the highest ranked team the Beavers have faced to this point.
This also sets up to be an uncomfortable matchup for Oregon State because the Ducks want to run. Oregon currently sits in the lower 100s in pace of play, while the Beavers sit in the mid-300s. This will be the fastest pace Oregon State has dealt with all season.
Even with that pace, the Ducks guard at a high level. Only three games into the season and they sit top 30 in adjusted defensive efficiency, free throw rate defense, block percentage, and two point defense. On the other side, the Beavers, who have yet to leave their home floor this season, struggle with turnovers and with creating second chance looks. Against North Texas they were out rebounded 35 to 24. So far this year, Oregon is 96th in offensive rebounding and 141st in defensive rebounding. Even in a rivalry environment, I will be shocked if the Beavers can keep up with Oregon tonight.
Oregon has every advantage tonight. They are deeper, faster, and far more tested, and their style of play directly targets the weak spots Oregon State has shown early in the season. The Beavers deserve credit for their fight against North Texas, but that type of escape is not repeatable against a program with Oregon's talent and physicality. If the Ducks push the pace, own the glass, and defend at their usual level, this game should tilt their way in a hurry. Rivalry or not, this is a spot where Oregon can flex and stay perfect.
I plan on quacking all night.
