We have a fascinating matchup in store as the North Texas Mean Green take on the Oregon State Beavers. Both teams enter this game undefeated at 2-0, each hoping to maintain their perfect start. North Texas is coming off a solid road win against Loyola Chicago, while Oregon State just edged past UIC last Friday. At first glance, the total in this game seems high, but when you dig into pace and style of play, it makes sense. Both teams play deliberately, emphasize defense, and limit scoring opportunities. This game promises a slow, methodical battle with every point at a premium.

North Texas vs. Oregon State Best Bet
Game with a total that is quickly dropping, this is the beautiful matchup we have before us. The North Texas Mean Green take on the Oregon State Beavers. Both teams enter this matchup 2-0 on the year, aiming to maintain their perfection. North Texas is coming off a win over Loyola Chicago on the road on Sunday. Meanwhile, Oregon State just sneaked past UIC last Friday.
The total in this matchup opened at a surprising 136 and has since dropped to 133.5 at some books. I was able to snag the under at 134.5. I am baffled this total is not a little lower. When I analyzed this matchup, I assumed it would be in the 125.5 range or lower. Why? The whole reason we are looking at this game, pace of play.
According to both Bart Torvik and Haslametrics, these teams rank in the bottom 15 to 20 in the nation for tempo. Most notably, the Mean Green are ranked the fourth slowest team in the country by Haslametrics. Home teams often dictate pace, but luckily for us, both teams chew clock from start to finish. So far this season, these two teams are a combined 3-1 to the under. North Texas is 2-0 on unders, while Oregon State is 1-1.
No Ross, No Problem
North Texas has yet to allow a team to score over 62 points this season, and that streak does not appear likely to end anytime soon. The Mean Green rank in the top 50 in adjusted defensive efficiency, fifteenth in effective field goal percentage defense, and seventh in block percentage. They have struggled to send teams to the free throw line, but that should not be a major concern in this matchup.
Even with the departure of former head coach Ross Hodge, North Texas has maintained the same style of play that has produced these results. Slow tempo, strong defense, and patient offense define this team. That is why I will continue to look for their unders until they fail me or the market catches up.
The Beavers, on the other hand, are fifty-second in free throw rate defense. They are keeping opponents off the line and defending the perimeter effectively. This is key, because North Texas is known for accuracy from deep. Oregon State has also avoided costly turnovers, ranking thirty-second in offensive turnover rate.
With this being one of the tougher matchups both programs have faced this season, I expect a full defensive effort and patient shot selection from both teams. The pace will be slow, as exciting as your grandmother's pickup league at the home. Expect this line to continue dropping due to the style of play for both teams. Points will be a premium in Corvallis. If you are not into unders, get ready to learn how to root for clanks and bricks. They can be more thrilling than any over you have ever bet, I guarantee it..
