The second edition of the best rivalry in college hoops takes place this Saturday in Cameron Indoor Stadium as the top ranked Duke Blue Devils look to get their revenge over the No. 17 North Carolina Tar Heels. A month ago to the date, the Tar Heels upset the Blue Devils as 5.5 point underdogs in Chapel Hill, winning on a last second three as time was winding down. Now the two go head to head again in the regular season finale, and the books clearly think it could get ugly. Let's see if our CBB experts agree, as we take a look at their favorite picks in this matchup.

Will Duke defeat North Carolina in this revenge spot at home? - North Carolina Duke Picks

Will Duke defeat North Carolina in this revenge spot at home?

After three straight head to head losses to Duke last season, the Tar Heels finally tasted victory in this historic rivalry. But now they have to go to Durham, where they haven't won since March of 2024. After being just two possession underdogs at home, they now find themselves catching 17.5 points on the road at Duke this Saturday.

Much of that is due to the Caleb Wilson news. There were rumors that he might be returning for this game, but news came out today that he is being sat down for the rest of the year, as his broken hand will require season ending surgery. That's bad news for the Tar Heels, and the market has clearly adjusted. Earlier today on The Morning Spread, Duke was only laying 15.5 points in this game. Now we've seen it shoot up a couple of points, which begs the question.. how valuable is Caleb Wilson? Is he really only worth two points?

Ultimately, this is far too many points for a rivalry game (in my eyes). I actually liked North Carolina at +15.5 before the Wilson news broke, and even now, I'll buy into the program. Do we really think they are going to go down without a fight? Is Duke really that dominant compared to this squad?

Sure, losing Wilson hurts. He was Carolina's leading scorer against the Blue Devils, as he put up 23 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, along with a couple of steals and a block as he played all 40 minutes. He only played one game after facing Duke before getting injured, but I still have faith in the visitors to make this a game. There is very little motivation for Duke, and the Tar Heels have learned how to play without their stud freshman.

They already have the one seed in the ACC wrapped up. They likely have a number one seed in the Big Dance finalized as well. Do they really need this win? The answer is no, they do not. Of course they will show up because it's a chance to get revenge on their rival. But ultimately, North Carolina is talented enough to keep this within single digits, certainly within the 17.5 point spread that we are currently seeing. Plus, I don't think the pace of this game will be fast enough for Duke to cover this number. Expect both defenses to show out.
