Our Aztec hosts are much better defensively than they are on offense. San Diego State boasts the 8th ranked defense overall and rank 5th in eFG% defense. Offensively, they are 140th and 235th in those categories. They don't get to the free throw line all that often, but they defend the perimeter very well and play slow. The Aztecs rank 252nd in possessions per game, they just gave up 50 to Nevada (a Top 100 team), and now they have a couple of tune up games at home before going to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State.
I see Brian Dutcher having his defensive minded team very focused on that end, especially considering they barely escaped against Air Force a couple games ago. They won't let defense be the reason they almost drop another.
San Jose State ranks 142nd overall, but they are not great away from home. In six away games, San Jose State is 1-5, with their lone win coming against Air Force (283rd). They rank 324th in pace on the road, but they do a great job of keeping their hands to themselves, ranking 70th in FT Rate defense. Like I said, they are 1-5 SU on the road, but they happen to be 5-1 ATS and 4-2 to the over this season, but they've gone under in their last two on the road. They are not a team to be underestimated, and I doubt SDSU thinks this way after escaping Colorado Springs with a win.
Tonight I see a slow paced defensive game staying well under this number.
