Conference tournaments are finally in full swing, and teams continue to punch their tickets to the NCAA Tournament. Tuesday's slate is full of games, so let's discuss some of the evening matchups and find our best bets for today.
So far, we have seven teams who have won their conference tournament and are in the Big Dance.
ASUN: Lipscomb Bisons
Big South: High Point Panthers
Missouri Valley: Drake Bulldogs
Ohio Valley: SIU-Edwardsville Cougars
SoCon: Wofford Terriers
Summit: Omaha Mavericks
Sun Belt: Troy Trojans
Tonight we have four more automatic qualifying bids looking to be punched.
I HAVE NOT BET THIS YET. I want to make that clear. This matchup opened up with the Bears as 3.5 point favorites, but immediately got bought up to where it sits now. With this game being a later tip off (9:00pm ET), I am going to wait and hope I can snag a 6, or even a 6.5 closer to tip off.
We have a double revenge spot for the Bobcats, so let's talk about it. They lost by 1 at home to Northern Colorado. The Bears had one of their best offensive outings of the year while Montana State had their worst defensive performance in terms of efficiency and eFG%. However, they made the adjustments on the road. They lost again in the second game, but they held UNCO to just 73 points, their third lowest total at home this season.
Now, the Bobcats were one point favorites at home and lost by one. Then they were 5.5 point underdogs on the road, losing by 7. They are 0-2 SU and 0-2 ATS against this Bears team, but they have one more shot to take down the best team in the conference. UNCO will push the pace, ranking Top 80 in possessions per game, as well as leading the conference in eFG%, OR allowed and FT Rate. However, they face a very good defense who has seen this team twice.
Montana State Has Been Rolling
The Bobcats are 2nd in the Big Sky in adjusted defensive efficiency and eFG%, as well as FT Rate on both sides of the ball. They get to the free throw line plenty, but keep their hands to themselves. Montana State takes great care of the basketball, and is 3rd in the conference in eFG%. Plus, they have been playing great basketball recently.
In their last 10 games, the Bobcats are Top 35 nationally in eFG% on both sides of the basketball. They are 12th in the country in 2P%, and they've had an eFG% of 62+ in three straight games, including hitting 73+ twice. Although the Bears offense is great, their defense might be surprised by how good this Montana State team has been playing. I am comfortable playing this number down to 4.5, and will wait for 6 or 6.5 before tip off.
